i moved into my first house november last year..when i moved in i obviously gave the meter readings and that was it..theyve never been in touch and ive been paying my 53 for the two for the last 12 months

until last week when i get a car through the door to say theyve tried to call to read the meters but i was out...i then get a letter asking me to ring with the readings..me being naive rings yesterday and give them em...only to be told that theyve been charging me at the rate from last year and have been undercharging me.,..to the sum of 650!!! they now are saying they will let me pay this off over 12months cause thats the length of time theyve took to get them read

it means next mionth my Direct debit is going up from 53 to 117...over 50%

what the fuck!! surely they cant do this?????

Same happened to me twice, both with BG and Npower. I think they are all useless cunts. There are two of us living in a terraced and our gas and electricity comes to £140 a month!

Its actually gone up by about 125% - Unfortunately they can do this as you have used the gas and electricity therefore have to pay.

yeh i have no problem with paying it as i must of used it

but can i try and restructure the paym, ents

i cant afford an extra 70quid a month

I work in debt, and come accross this thin ALL the time. They hide behind the fact that its your responisbility to make sure you're paying enough, and unfortunately it is. They may allow you to make payments over a longer period, if not then they'll pass it onto a debt recovery agency to sort out. You'd be surprised (or maybe not?) at how often this actually happens. They do it to make sure you can't switch.

I don't know if it will help but it may be worth having a look on the link below and contacting them for advice with your problem.

the easyest way to stop it,is check your last estimated reading. If it is well short you can make a rough pro-rata estimate on how much more you need to pay, then ring em before any future bill gose through the floorboard when posted.....
