Gate for Hull

38,500+ is not a bad attendance when all is said and done, so let's not blind ourselves to that just because there were 15,000 empty seats. We were discussing this at the game, saying that we must be spoilt as we'd have given our right hands for even a League Cup QF prior to 2008.

Funnily enough we played Spurs in the League Cup in the 2007/8 season at home so I checked the attendance. A quarter-final against attractive opposition, at a time when we hadn't had any success for over 30 years and had won all our home games so far that season. So you'd assume we'd sold out for that, yes?

In fact, the crowd was virtually the same as tonight's at 38,564.

That's a very good point. I remember that Spurs game and was expecting it to be a sell out that night. Also, QF of the FA Cup at home to West Ham in 2006 - the crowd was around 39,000 IIRC. With far more games these days due to being in more competitions and tending to go further in them as well, 38,000 is a decent turnout - looking at the planner I wasn't expecting that many but as someone said, with a good few thousand sold in the 3rd tiers of East and West stands before they were taken offline it meant the fans were spread more thinly over the stadium.

The semi against West Ham was 30,000 a couple of years ago. I can even remember the home semi against Boro in 76 - I think it was 44,000 when it could have been 50,000, never understood that.

Cup games just dont do it so I think we should be glad of 38 and a half!

City's pricing for the Capital one Cup has been excellent this year. It'd be a shame if we couldn't get 45,000 minimum for the Semi
The problem is if you just shelled out a £120 for you ,your missus and a nipper to a league game you aint got much left to go to the Cup game .Cityhave got the League cup prices ok but need to sort the league prices out season tickets are great some match day prices need looking at

But 6,000 drop in number of City fans on the last round despite it being a Q/F. Recent games haven't been much fun.

Charge £10 a ticket for adults £1 for kids it will be packed and the ground will be rocking

It was half-term when we played Palace - loads of kids in attendance that night. Plenty wouldn't have taken their kids last night, particularly younger kids. If we get a Saturday 3PM kick off at home in the FA Cup 3rd round we'll probably fill it, given that we've sold out loads of FA Cup games in recent years even when we've been playing Championship opposition.

Then there's all the other additional bolt ons, a programme, a drink, food, parking. It all mounts up if your not savvy about where to go around the ground.

Didn't the rags get 40k or even less for Ipswich who brought more than Hull. Given that they have at least 659million fans I would say our crowd was an excellent one. Anyeay who gives a f**k. If I am the only one there and we win I wouldn't care less

Would just like to add we had 38,000 more fans in the ground than the rags did at the same round of the competition !

Piss poor if we don't get near to 40k. Quarter final of a cup and tickets are less than £20. Yes there will be some that can't afford this on top of a season ticket etc but generally speaking there's no excuses other than can't be arsed because it's not United/Arsenal/Chelsea.

To be honest I wouldn't have gone had it been against United/Arsenal/Chelsea..... got better things to do during the week, these days I just about have free time on weekends to go to the games.
Sometimes people are just genuinely busy especially around this time of the year, I don't think a lot of people take that into consideration.
Like you said though if people would have turned up if the opponent was a bigger team then I agree there isn't any excuse not to turn up vs hull last night.

It's up to people whether they choose to go, personally I am in my 50's and still get a buzz going to the games whoever we are playing, enjoyed it last night. Would have preferred more in the ground but it didn't stop my enjoyment, and the traffic was better

absolutely bang on, it may sound daft but that £5 makes all the difference, I go to all home games anyway but do think the lower the better especially this month, next week v gladbach wont be a full house and I cant blame people for not coming, money is hard to come by
I live in bury and would watch bury if city weren't playing but its too dear even at £15 last year, £10 people don't mind any higher people don't come.
the crowd last night was decent anyway but every other club that is obsessed with our attendances cant wait to jump on to it, just leave them to it

My first post in 3 years or so due to me forgetting my password and not bothering to reset it but funny enough was just looking through my last post and the same arguement was going on 3 years ago about liverpool and the semi final. £18 was a fair price last night, cant believe people expect less. City arent a charity, you would pay more to watch 2 local league sides. City try to be fair with their pricing in my view and try to make these cups games as cheap as possible (kids for £1 etc). The people who want to go will go and like other posts have said 38000+ is a very good crowd.

When we played palace the kids were off school so attendance was always gna be more. Don't know why they opened the 3rd tier tho should fill lower tiers first.. Either way well done City nearly ready for another wembley trip hopefully. Silva and de bruyne were top notch last night. Everton we will get next round my guess.

Will be interesting to see how League Cup Final tickets are distributed if we get there. My understanding was that if you are not signed up to the League Cup scheme you are bottom of the list regardless of how many loyalty points you have. Suspect with 42,000 season tickets now that quite a few people will be disappointed, may make a difference to attendances next year!
