The Moon and Jupiter with the Galilean moons.

In order, they go:

Moon (obviously), Callisto, Ganymede, Jupiter, Io, and Europa.

Callisto, Io and Ganymede are bigger than our Moon. Europa is a little smaller but actually the best prospect for life in our Solar System. It's so close to Jupiter that it warps the Moon by the power of its gravity which creates heat inside the planet and keeps water liquid. It also has an oxygen type atmosphere.

Also this one from today:

The top Sun is that Summer Sun, the middle one is the Autumn Sun and the bottom one is the Winter Sun.

This is why it's cold today. We don't have much Sun. The photo is taken at one hour intervals, so we have all those hours of Sun in summer to heat us up and that few hours of Sun which is why it get cold.

Re: General Astronomy Picture Thread

How do you begin to take a photo like that ? I heard if you look at the sun through one of those things your eyes will fall out.

The Eye of Jupiter, taken from Voyager 1 in '96. Its three times the size of Earth. If you cut out the mosaic nature, run some image processing on it to account for shoddy cameras/lighting, etc, this is what it would look like to the eye:

I feel a bit sorry for our moon. Other planets moons get to have cool names like Ganymede and ours is stuck with just Moon.

Its like owning a cat and calling it cat.

It's called The Moon. Like The FA or The Open.

This is my Moon. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My Moon is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My Moon, without me, is useless. Without my Moon, I am useless.
