During the last election net migration into the UK had actually increased from 244,000 in 2010 to 330,000 in 2014 rather than being brought down to less than 100,000 as She and Cameron had committed, she was the minister responsible for making the government’s commitment a reality - on from that the backlog of finding failed asylum seekers had gone up, the number of foreign prisoners removed had gone down, and the number of illegal immigrants deported had also gone down.

I'm aware of the net migration figures.

Non-EU migration has indeed gone down. The government can't reduce EU migration whilst part of the EU.

I agree.

Cameron would have walked this. Likewise Chukka Umuna or even god forbid someone like Ed Balls. Jeremy is to the swing voter about as toxic as you can imagine, despite his popularity amongst the left. And May appears to be inept, whether that's the reality or not. She appears it, which is offputting enough.

Non-EU migration has indeed gone down. The government can't reduce EU migration whilst part of the EU.

2016 Some 165,000 EU citizens arrived here in those 12 months compared to a similar number - 164,000 - of non-EU citizens.

The point being that the UK government can already control migration from outside the EU - and it's just as high as the numbers from inside the EU, which was one of the main reasons why people voted for Brexit.

I don't see how any party can actually control migration in a way that will meet the expectations of many of the electorate, be they employees or employers.

Some degree of EU migration will probably have to continue, though in a more controlled way, but any trade deals with countries such as China and India et al. will see these countries ask for freedom of migration/employment for their nationals in the UK. They know we'll want access to their markets, so it's something they'll inevitably use as leverage, and I just cannot see the numbers coming down, whoever is in power.

I agree mate. Which is one of the reasons why I voted Remain.

As our population ages, we need an influx of young people to settle here, to earn money, get pay rises and promotions and earn more money. To do the jobs you suggest and to generate the taxation revenue needed to pay for our rising social care costs.

Cutting immigration to the "10's of thousands" is a stupid, undeliverable objective. Controlling immigration is fine - smoothing peaks and troughs and not allowing our services to be swamped before we can increase capacity. But setting a low limit like that is nutty.

There's many Tory policies I disagree with. But Labour's policy of "ruining the economy to the detriment of all of us" is even worse.

Surely the trawling should be by Corbyn supporters to find evidence of his even-handedness and supportiveness of the Unionists side - that or people just giving up trying to re-write history for short-term politics gain

He was and is a member of the British parliament. A member of the British Labour Party. He IS the fucking unionist side.

He's just a man who realised even earlier than Margaret thatcher, John major, Tony Blair and bill Clinton that the only way to get a brokered peace in the north was to open a dialogue.

History has proven him correct. If he hadn't broken this ground, the peace process likely would never have happened and we'd now be fighting a war on terror on two fronts instead of one.

We have no way of knowing how many thousands of people owe their lives and their health to brave men of peace like Jeremy corbyn. Be thankful that we have men with his moral courage in politics. It makes it acceptable and possible for murderers like Blair to take the glory for the peace process that corbyn and others made possible.
