Yeah but the problem here is Barça wants/wanted to not pay the clause.It will still happen but they are just playing this up a bit more. Because the information is released to public and it does not look good on Atleti that their star player was contacted as early as February to sort out a deal. It is only right they 'act' angry to show they do not accept this behaviour, very normal for any club to do in the situation.
It is also impossible that such a big agreement was struck and no one at Atletico knew. Plus it is no crime in having terms agreed with individual prior to bidding or paying the clause. Lot of clubs do that, even before the window opens.
When PSG wanted Neymar, they paid the clause. When City wanted Rodri, they paid the clause. Here, Atletico expressed their anger over the disrespect of Barcelona that has "screwed them over" by negociating with their biggest star and is not willing to pay the clause (initially). Prolly Barcelona wants to try to take Neymar, de Ligt, or other players and don't want to pay the lump sum for Griezmann over installments.
