how other big countries with big markets couldnt figure out how to do something similar i dont know but it is what it is
Because stupidly they've allowed one or two teams to monopolise the majority of their top league's revenue with zero challengers like in France & Germany.
Take La Liga... As long as Real & Barça kept winning their league & the CL, all was great. However, once the shit hit the fan & either team dips, La Liga will dip with them. It's the risk you run when putting all your eggs in one basket.
This season, Chelsea, Spuds & Liverpool suffered dips, but City & Arsenal battled it out for the league until the final three games of the season.
Newcastle upset the CL qualification apple cart & Ten Hog got ManUre the final CL place. Next season anyone from City, Arsenal, Newcastle, ManUre, Dippers, Spuds & Chavs could feasibly challenge for the league & the likes of Villa, Brighton & Brentford could have a big say on who wins the league & lands a coveted CL spot.
With La Liga, it's usually about the finishing order between Barça & Real, & who finishes 4th after Atletico. It's become that predictable because the gap between these three & the rest is so vast, La Liga became boring with broadcasters opting to show other leagues instead.
A match between Levante & Real Valecano isn't getting any pulses racing. So La Liga's revenue drops & so does the revenue crumbs distributed to the rest of the league's supporting cast.
If reports are correct, City will receive £60m more for winning the PL than the relegated clubs, hence the tougher competition. These other leagues need to share their revenue more evenly & their whole league will benefit & rise, not just a couple of teams...
