General transfer rumours

In cases like Cancelo, simply getting rid of the player is more valuable than the replacement.

Nobody knows what we did or didn't do to replace Cancelo. I highly doubt that Txiki didn't have anything to offer. Pep doesn't want a "semi-decent" player either, we have proven on more than one occasion we will wait for the right option.

We are in a battle now, Pep wants a core group of players who have the grit for a title fight.
Cancelo was a great player but he was playing out of position. If he was unhappy and causing grief then you have to deal with it.

The real failing is not cancelo but the failure to find a decent LB.

Romeo Lavia had a great game against the rags yesterday, part of me thinks I wish he’d of stayed instead of buying Phillips, what’s the situation with Lavia do we have a buy back clause

Hey Romio, 2 options:
- you can stay here on your academy contract and occassionally play in the carabao cup but no promises and if we do well we’ll probably drop you for the semi and final; or
- you can move to another prem team as a first teamer, doubling or trebling your salary, playing every week AND if you do well we’ll still be able to bring you back here when you’re ready

I think next season we will say the same thing about Tommy Doyle & James Mcatee incase they were sold.

Read somewhere, possibly on this forum, that if Southampton stay up we may activate the buy back clause for Lavia.
As part of the negotiation, Borges and/ or Mebude will go the other way for a fee with a buyback clause.
I'm guessing the fee for either will be similar to what we got for Lavia.

If they go down, they may no longer have an interest in younger players.

Not sure he would want to come back, he will get plenty of great offers and from clubs that will almost certainly guarantee a first team place, not a chance he will get that with us at this stage of his career.

What an incredible window this would be for Newcastle -

Are any of them better than what they already have? Not convinced. They “only” need 3 big improvement players that move current players to the bench and they are good to go
CM for longstaff
Winger for almiron/murphy
CB/LB for burn

I agree. Also, I don't see Szoboszlai on the list, so maybe we will look into it :).

Longstaff isn't in their first XI to begin with.

Pope
Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn
Maddison, Bruno, Ward-Prowse/Joelinton
Almiron, Isak, Barnes/Saint-Maximin

It’s not bad but think they could do with a more natural left back.

Maddison and Barnes would be excellent signings. Not convinced the others would add anything other than greater squad depth though.
