Conor: "Khabib had a good performance, but he pulls out too much for me to fight him"

Connor and the ufc are not stupid, they'll only put him in with fighters they feel confident he'll beat. Too much money to lose otherwise. If he doesn't fight khabib or even Ferguson next I'll be severely dissapointed.
He's right though, Khabib has one fight in the last 8 years. He has pulled out of far too many to invest in a title shot, needs to prove he can stay fit.

Woodley is like double his size..Conor had to pack on the pounds to make 170, whilst Woodley probably walks around at 190? One punch would take Connors head clean off. And he wouldnt get near Stephen Thompson

I saw an interview with Woodley where he stated he walks round at 205! The only way Conner goes up to welterweight is if he's deluded enough to think he can make the step, and they show him enough cash.

Insane isn't he. As soon as he gets you on the ground you might as well give up. Literally rag dolls everyone.

It's weird, really weird. He doesn't fight like anybody I've seen. The trapping of limbs is madness he's like a fucking Anaconda. But, I also think he has no chin. Johnson rocked him with a jab and he's the first guy to get anywhere near his face.

Anyway as for the card fuck me it was quality.

Tate is done and at least she knows it. Owned throughout the fight. Still, at least she can go out knowing she at least claimed the strap once.

Romero was a shock. But I reckon USADA are going to have a field day on him. Looks massively jacked up. If not fair play but christ look at the size of him and lighter than Weidman apparently,

Woodley deserves all the plaudits from all the fighters on show tonight. He was completely written off my everybody including me and there was times he was fucking killing Wonderboy. Has trilogy written all over it, and if Conor thinks he can fight Woodley he's on a suicide mission, that fucker can punch.

Joanna showed what Joanna is. She's a machine and if she can't knockyou out she'll just dominate you for 15 minutes. This woman is gold and IMO will never be beaten at her level.

As for Conor, people need to realise he's going down as one of the GOAT. That left hand is ridiculous. He made Eddie look like me. Love him or hate him he'll knock anybody out at 145/155 including Khabib if he can withstand the takedowns which I don't know if he could. Khabib vs Conor would sell out literally anywhere, and is the fight to make right now.

Excise my ignorance never seen or read about this sport before..is this what Gary Cooke is in charge of and is it the same thing as cage fighting ?

I believe cage fighting is applied to amateur organised/performed by amateurs (not professional contracted) and probably tends to be illegal - think thugs with day jobs in a cage. MMA is the sport (professional martial artists/wrestlers/boxers in an octagon, not a basic cage), UFC the major promoter; some professional MMA promoters may market the term cage fighting, though I believe MMA fighters tend to dislike this term for professional bouts.

OK thanks is Gary Cooke involved do you know ?

Trust me, while he's working with John Kavanagh his feet will stay firmly on the ground in training and he'll always be fully prepared :)

Big decision to make now on weight class though, personally I think he should stay at lightweight. Making featherweight seems to be something that causes him trouble and there's no real challenges in the division for someone with his power and he was a lot slower at welterweight (although once he was adjusted and training at the weight long term it could be different) although he hits hard enough. I don't think he'll be allowed to hang on to both belts as it means less title fights on the UFC cards.
Aye, he's always looking for the challenge that will sell it to the fans that has to be admired, but needs to be balanced with his weight-class conditioning. Wouldn't be surprised to see him give up featherweight (maybe after a defence), and move onto Welterweight. Who knows what UFC would let him do, but I think there'd be too much pressure from other fighters for him to retain both belts and go for the welterweight. Maybe the UFC would let him go for that next and he'd have to vacate a featherweight if he won it.

Depends on which division McGregor fights in next and whether Khabib can stay in fighting shape really. I think if McGregor has any ambitions at featherweight he has to defend that belt next.

I'll doff my hat to Mcgregor if he takes a fight with Khabib at any point in his career...He's the stylistic nightmare for him.. If Khabib gets a grip of you the rest of the round is about survival. You're not stopping his takedowns and you're not getting back up, especially if you have Conor's groundgame.

Think Conor will go where the money is.

Yep, since he left us. No surprise the popularity of the UFC has grown into mainstream consciousness since then, though McGregor has done loads for it - if it weren't for him, it'd have nothing on UFC pre-2012, which had a range of quality fighters/big names.

Just checked it out Cooke was finished last month

Conor would get squashed at Ww, he had to pack on the pound to fight at that weight vs Diaz and both times started gassing in the 2nd round.. Watch the Lawler/Condit/McDonald fights and tell me you think Conor could compete with that.
Then there's Maia the best BJJ practisioner ive seen in mma. Then Wonderboy a points Karate fighter with like a 5inch height advantage on Conor, then Woodley who looks like he could bench press Conor out of the octagon.

But then I guess Conor wouldnt have to work his way up the rankings like anyone else would.

I imagine he'd need longer conditioning for Ww to put the odds more in his favour. Who knows what he'll do though.

Conor has proven very adept at take-down defence, the problem for anyone trying out is that it brings you into range of his knees and elbows.

conor is 28 so with anything Conor could move up and fight he wont stay at this weight level when he is in his 30s if he is still fighting he will not be at this weight division, I think he will move up again. I think he likes be a history maker. so imagine if he moved up to be a 3 weight champion wow that would be some doing. The guy loves MMA and he loves learning a lot of new things. So those history fights will always be a option for him as Dana knows he will fight anyone. As he is a competitor first and foremost.

I don't see anyone at lightweight being able to beat Conor in a stand up contest. Khabib has been mentioned and I agree if he gets Conor on the floor then it's all over, but since the first Diaz fight Conor's takedown defence has drastically improved.

Drastically improved? Yes, but khabib can take anyone down. Johnson is a fighter with great wrestling, he's actually known for that yet khabib took him down with ease. There is no way connor could stop them takedowns, a flash ko is his only hope.

You see what he said about fighting khabib next and it shows you he wants no part of that fight.

Conor is definitely looking at stepping up into another weight class no doubt... As when he told Dana who he wanted after the fight in the octagon you can see Dana saying: so why did you want that belt then? "

Conor had too much power for lightweight division.
Obviously some guy who just sat on the floor gracie style would beat conor but ppv buyers don't wanna watch that... They want to see people willing to bang with conor so he'll always be matched with someone who trades.... In a higher weight there are lads who can rock him.

As for his personality.... He isn't like this.
I remember him being quite quiet and a little humble.
I mean yes he's making a lot of money and he's on top of the world right now but he is playing in the whole showman thing.
Acting like that in the real world and coming up in the sport of MMA he wouldn't of lasted a second and would've been thrown out of every dojo for being a prick.
This hasnt been the case.

One thing ufc has changed alot in since Gary Cooke came on board and ADUG is they really play on the locality of each fighter.
So it's all about the pride of the fighters area, which country they are from and so on.

Prime example was after the female Polish fight. Both spoke in native tongue often, even suggested getting a ufc card in the country, and were praising Poland alot.

This wouldn't of been the case years ago.
Same with the clothing they now wear.
The shorts have their nations flag on them.

All apart of marketing and getting these fighters support.

I like the direction in which the sport has gone in that it's much more widely accepted now... The UFC are still showing the respect elements of the sport, such as fighters touching gloves, paying respect to each other after the fights and so on.

The day they scrap Joe Rogan and commentary of people who understand the Gi and how technique works, describing it throughly is the day I stop watching UFC.

Can't see Connor fighting Khabib it's to much of a risk and he'll struggle in that fight IMO. Khabib is an animal I don't see how that fight stays standing. He'll most likely fight Diaz in another meaningless fight at WW and hold on to the other two belts until a realistic opponent he can beat at WW comes along. The 145 belt should be relinquished as he has no intention of defending it.
