General Videogame Thread

It’s probably the exact opposite. From a gameplay and game design perspective, it’s one of the most mature series in gaming. By comparison I’ve always seen CoD as being ‘for the kids’ due to how simple of an experience it is. A bit like the happy meal of gaming whereas Zelda is the delicious steak.
Difficult to compare really as for me, to get into a zelda game i need to invest some serious time. Elden ring i loved, but my god it took over my life for a month and the family hardly saw me when i had a spare 3/4 hours. CoD i can pick up for 30 minutes, quick couple of games of warzone or DMZ and put it down and happy. I presume Zelda is similar to Skyrim, Elden Ring in that sense which are two of my favourite games ever, but as i get older it makes it so hard for someone like me to get into.

Not really a comparison, you need to compare against other open world role playing games.

Enjoying Hogwarts Legacy on PS4. Found the odd glitch and a classroom didn't load last night, which made me fall through the floor and below Hogwarts. The speed runner in me stuck with it just in case I found a game breaking shortcut. In the end I couldn't even pause so turned it off.

For someone who grew up on the books and films, its an immense experience. I can see how it might be a great looking but boring game for those who are just gamers, but I honestly spent 15 minutes zooming in on taps in a bathroom the other night looking for the Chamber of Secrets entrance.

Well Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are two of the highest rated games of all time. Several other Zelda’s are also. No other open world role playing game has ever been consistently on that level.

Sorry I just don’t get the hype and believe me I’ve tried Zelda games in the past. The worlds just don’t seem alive enough.

It would be pretty boring if we all liked the same thing.

Breath of the Wild has a world more alive than any other open world game ever. That’s what it’s actually acclaimed for. Only Elden Ring can claim to dine at the same table as BotW and now Tears of the Kingdom.

The games before BotW were on weaker hardware relative to the time but were better than games of that same level. For example Ocarina of Time was mind blowing for it’s day.

Which Zelda games have you played?

Watch this to see how insane the depth of BotW is:

Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and back in the day Zelda 2 but you can’t really count that.

Yeah, those two were very much on Gamecube/PS2/Wii level technology. Breath of the Wild is a gigantic leap forward by comparison. I actually struggled going back to other games after it including games like God of War because their worlds, while looking great, felt so flat in comparison.

Watch the first part of the video I posted, it will show off how interactive the world is. The amount of stuff you can do is insane.

Is it worth buying a switch just to play breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom?
Unless you're absolutely wadded and have nothing else you would want to play I'd say no. Switch is on its last legs, the hardware is simply too outdated now. they'll be a new nintendo console at the very least announced if not out within 12 months

Yep Nintendo needs a new speck updated console it’s taking so long to convert the high standard games like The new hogwarts legacy game that now won the out till late November

I think they'll cut their losses and cancel the Switch version. Maybe have it as a launch title for a new Nintendo console.

Not a chance that comes out and works. Either it gets canned or it's a heavily feature removed version. They struggled to get it going on ps4 and is by all accounts pushing it being on there.

Anyone played The Last of Us on PC? - I do enjoy playing on PC but really annoying how quickly new games need better hardware - no matter how much you upgrade - always playing catch up
