General Videogame Thread

I imagine ISPs all over the world will be ruing the day RDR2 comes out - besides, I prefer physically having the disk.
I used to prefer disk but don't really see any need for it now. That said I have a nice connection in comparison to much of the UK so I'm likely speaking from a privelleged position

Thinking of buying a Nintendo Switch for the 8 year old boy. Worth it? I never liked the Wii all that much but it isnt for me

The switch is class, I took mine on holiday was great on the plane, Nintendos have more child friendly bright colourful games in my opinion. Better than him sitting on cod all day.

Oh I don’t. Have it downloaded and you have it for life. No fucking about changing disks. No dust issues. No scratches.

Haha basically TDP is a way of figuring out how much a particular part of a computer uses. The graphics card I referred to (RX570) is much more power efficient than the other one
I was reading that RX580 is the minimum you should go for, as far as VR on AMD cards goes. Looking at the pre-owned prices on ebay today, I'd go for one of those if you plan on dipping your toes into VR at some point in the future or just want the option. That was one reason I was considering the 1060, I take it the newer cards must lend themselves better to high frame rates and the multi-screen nature of those games.

I have bought the 580 4gb online from CEX today haha.
2 year warranty was well worth the extra tenner or so

Ah well seems like you got a good deal after all there.
Yes mate it's a decent one. I'll report back when it's delivered.
As long as it's running my games in 1080p@60fps in high settings I'll be delighted.
Other positive is that with AMD you can get freesync monitors which are far cheaper then gsync monitors

Can't wait for RDR2, but genuine question loads on here saying don't pre-order a game, I was planning on buying it on release day, so how long do i wait to buy it before bug issues are resolved?

I may have been out of the loop on this one but for anybody that didn't know, you can share your Xbox digital titles with one other person. This also applies to the Xbox live Gold membership.

I have recently done this and have access to my friends game library and vice versa.

We will effectively be getting our games half price from now on and the same for our Xbox Live Gold membership.

Why wait ? Especially for this game that has been years in the making. Yes there will be updates to fix bugs but is highly unlikely to be a game breaker.

Many problems are usually in online games and the online aspect of RDR2 wont be available for some time after launch. I think I read that online will be in beta around a month after launch.

I expect there will be few problems with the single player and it will be a very polished product.

Thanks for your recommendation. I enjoyed that. Do you have any more ? Are God of War or Red Dead Redemption 2 similar in your opinion ?

Similar in the sense that they are both story driven with a go here, do this, return to me and further your progression gameplay. But the stories are obviously so far apart the experience will be totally different. I have completed god of war and would recommend it just for the writing alone.
