General Videogame Thread

Seen so many who absolutely love it on Twitter... edit - they've cited a kinda BOTW influence in terms of the sense of exploration, and from what I can recall I don't think you were a fan of that either so maybe its a personal preference thing.

It probably is just me, but tbh I don't get a BOTW vibe to it at all. It just feels lacking in any excitement when you play. You have to do menial tasks to ensure you can do the arcs and the lip syncing/voice acting is really, really bad.

I've sank now a good amount of time where I feel I've given the game a fair crack of the whip, and I think it's the worst AC since Unity. Odyssey and Origins were bloated, but their stories were compelling and actions had real consequences.

I'm obviously trying to avoid spoiling anything, but to be honest there's not a lot to spoil as hardly anything actually happens. The bugs are also awful.

All IMO of course.

Played the demo of Ori and the blind forrest last night on Switch, Excellent stuff so far. the level of emotion they managed to pack into an intro level is Pixar'esque
I’m playing it for the first time on Xbox, despite owning it for years. I’d definitely recommend buying it (£3.99 on Xbox regularly) as it gets better and better and better as the game goes on. Defo going to be a classic for me, and apparently the second is even better.

I’ve had a new PlayStation on release or the immediate Christmas when I was younger for every generation, I’ve not bothered this time around. There’s nothing I can’t play on an older gem console and there won’t be anything for a good while yet. The graphical updates aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade and faster loading is nice but again not a system selling feature.

It’s the games that will sell the system and seeing as they’re all going to be on PS4 for a while yet. with minimal differences there’s really no need to spunk £400 on new hardware. I’ll wait probably 12 months, see what the upcoming release schedule looks like then and then I’ll likely bite the bullet on a ps5, by then they’ll likely be a “newer” model too as launch consoles don’t have a particularly strong history of surviving for very long.

For now I shall stick with the PS4. I spent £35 on a years subscription to PsNow back in the early stages of lockdown, it’s given me a constant supply of great games to play and continues to do so. could not have spent £35 any better.

Is it as impossible to find a PS5 over there in the UK as it is here in the States right now? Stock literally evaporates in seconds. I've never seen anything like it.

There's allegedly stock you can reserve at a few retailers via click and collect (in a national lockdown...hmmm) that is being released today as it is uk launch day today. Just tried myself and I could reserve on for collection today or delivery tomorrow.

I'm standing firm behind not getting one for a couple of years. Yes I feel the excitement but I'm not shelling out £449 then £50 or more per game plus just to play Sackboy and Assassin's Creed Bughalla!

Edit... Click and collect doesn't actually work when you click through, just delivery.

Picked up Black ops cold war yesterday. Trading it in today. It's awful. Graphically It looks like a PS3 game compared to Modern warfare. The movement, sound effects and general gameplay is so bad.

Ok it seems to be a lot more hectic now that 6am. A few retailers had stock earlier this morning but all fine, everyone waiting to see if they are drip feeding throughout the day or that is it for now.

There is a queue of over 125,000 trying to access the Curry's pc world website right now, for example.

I queued at 8am on currys and was 50k in the queue. Finally got to the site and no ps5's to be seen at all. Fucking pathetic as usual. Gonna sack it off now and just wait till after xmas.

I cleared the campaign over the weekend, on PC, I have to say I did enjoy it tbh, there were similarities with the old goldeneye campaigns, and a few tricky bits of evidence to solve that are unique to your copy of the game.

I thought as much from the Beta, looked and felt like a free to play affair. There's a group of lads on a discord server I use though that booked 2 weeks off for it, and from what I can see, have been on it at least 8 hours every days since. The thing is, listening to em, I don't believe they are actually truly enjoying it, it's just some weird annual ritual to mess with new shiny for a bit regardless of how average it is. That said I had a 16yr break from the series form the first until MW, which I though was decent, but nothing ground breaking. The publishers have nailed it psychologically. Buy the same thing year on year. Fifa, Madden, Cod, BF. Same shit different skin. That's £60 please, but you REALLY NEED that fella wearing black instead of green pack mate, and that's in the £90 one.
