General Videogame Thread

Looking at a PC at the minute to properly get into VR gaming. Budget isn't an issue but finding what I want seems to be.

I do love a console though. Can't beat coming in from training having a shower then just switching off and shooting shit on the sofa
i got my quest 3 hooked up to my gaming rig i play il2 flight sim and racing games its absolutley brilliant

Anyone bothering with Crimson Desert? Seen some really mixed reviews for it.
Gonna give it a miss. I’ve seen one reviewer that’s put in 200 hours and still has about a third of the map to explore. I’m at an age and point in my life where that just sounds tiresome rather than something that draws me in. There’s only so many outposts I can clear before I just get bored and hop onto another game. I also prefer there to be a good narrative that pulls me through a game like this. By all accounts, Crimson Desert is very weak when it comes to story. It’s more of a sandbox action game than a story-driven RPG. Just not really for me tbh.

I am playing Metal Gear Solid 5 and I am really enjoying it. I am planning to get Far Cry 3 after I am done with MGS. Anyone played that?

First impressions from me aren’t amazing. It looks incredible and in the small amount of fighting I’ve done it felt like it has real promise. What I don’t like are the controls (I’m on ps5). They are a bit all over the place and at times it feels really slow responsively and clunky which really puts me off.

Gonna give a good go tomorrow and just set off exploring and see how I find it. Defo has potential, just need to really get stuck into it.

I'm the same mate. Playing on console but really struggling as the controls feel a bit heavy.

I think it's one where I really need to spend the time getting to grips before I make a judgement.

The world itself looks incredible.

Same with me. The world is stunning and looks absolutely fantastic but the controls are all over the place. Reminds of the rdr2 controls. The story is virtually non existent and doesn't make any sense and some of the puzzles are fucking awful. Keep looking up guides online as some really make no sense. It throws way too many systems to you at once without explanation so you find yourself looking at the in game guides all the time.

Also performance is a mess. I'm on a PS5 Pro and was getting around 80fps however the screen tearing was absolutely awful. After some research I discovered the game really does not like going over 60fps so I had to turn off 120hz mode on the console then in game I had to put it in performance mode, turn off HDR and turn v-sync off. I'm now getting a solid 60fps and the game is running really smooth but surely that has to be patched.

It's like the Devs have mashed up rdr2, the lastest Zelda games, WOW and the Witcher 3 all in one game.

Having said all that though I am actually having a blast with it. The combat is fucking superb and there is just so much to do. Just get on your hose and have a wander you'll always find something interesting. It's definitely not a RPG. I would class it a single player action MMO. It's definitely not for everyone but if it clicks with you like it's doing for me it's fucking great. So long as the devs sort out the performance issues and a simplified control system this has the potential for being an all timer

Interested to see Crimson Desert opinions. The subreddit for the game has become a mess so I turn to Bluemoon for a different view, and see that a lot of the views are mirrored here. I very nearly bought it yesterday as well but decided to show some restraint. Most of the issues highlighted aren't deal breakers for me personally but I'll let them add a few patches before I go in.

Is the combat like a souls game? I hope not, never been able to play Elden Ring because everything just murders me. I can't do that clunky combat at all.

Combat isn't like a souls game. It's really fast paced and you can pull off some insane combos, even at the start of the game.

Normal enemies you can steamroll though them but the bosses are tough. Met my first one last night and after about 20 mins I gave up as he was virtually one shotting me. But thing the thing with this game. I just went off exploring level up, got some food for heath and went back to the fight. Took about 2-3 more tries but I managed to defeat him in the end

Decent so far. It's not prime Miyazaki, but then I never expected it to be. The consensus is that it's trying to be too many things; I'd agree with that. One minute you think Tears Of The Kingdom and the next you think Elden Ring.

Not even left Hernand yet and just messing around getting used to controls doing missions and trying to get my head around levelling up and what to do with armour and gear I’ve collected. Learnt to stock up on food very quickly as it’s needed in fights. Ended up in some big quarry and thousands attacking me, didn’t end well for me. Had a good five hours on it today and I’m really starting to enjoy it.

Need to start venturing out and exploring now.

I have absolutely no self control and decided to buy it. So far so good but I've still been seeing a few horror clips on Reddit. At 35 I'm past being any form of brand loyalist, Pearl Abyss are not a huge name in development compared to the likes of Rockstar so I wouldn't have been expecting a flawless experience. The worst game I've ever played near release was actually the original Kingdom Come Deliverance and look how number 2 turned out.
