George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

The rioting is same as over here a while back
Starts as a protest and quickly is taken over by scumbags on the rob and others who want to fight and destroy stuff
Only issue is over there the point will come where the police start shooting

This was about black lives mattering and a black man being murdered

The epitome of white privilege is going into a black neighbourhood hijacking a protest/movement, helping destroy the area and attack police to then return to your nice house drink a chai latte and go bed.

Antifa is the narrative being pushed by Right wing organisations. In reality it only really exists as a colloquial term for anyone who is anti-fascist. Yes, anti-fascists are rioting and burning, but the notion that it has been orchestrated by Antifa is bollocks.

The right wing, and Trump followers, are defined by their deference and loyalty towards an authoritarian figure. They don't care about values, or political positions or ideologies, which is why all these "good christians" have no problem with the fact Trump had affairs, paid for sex, paid for abortions, lies multiple times a day, is openly misogynistic, explicitly says he doesn't like poor people, and hasn't opened a bible in 50 years.

All that matters is that the authoritarian figure head did it, so it's ok. It's what makes pointing out the hypocrisy and lies and cognotive dissonance so annoying, because you can show them 2+2 = 4, but if Trump says it's 5 then it's 5, and if he says it's 3 tomorrow, it's 3.

Because of that mindset they find it very hard to go up against ideas. It's hard for them to comprehend that tens of millions of people have just decided enough is enough, so they need to find a bogeyman, a group or figurehead to direct their hate and blame.

That's what antifa is. It doesn't actually exist, it's not an organisation or structured group, but Trump can just shout Antifa, and his followers have their single point of blame. Job done, no need to ask why so many of their fellow Americans are protesting, it's all just Antifa's fault.

It's still about that, but there will always be opportunistic people waiting to take advantage of any civil unrest, either locally or out of towners.

If there’s one thing that’s going to solve this issue, it’s more racial stereotyping.

Everyone should be alarmed and appalled by the treatment of black people by the police. Irrespective of their own background or choice of coffee.

It’s a human issue and stereotyping people’s behaviour based on race is the actual underlying issue here. Doing more of it just adds fuel to the problem.

as i know if you were like this in public you would probably end up on the floor holding your face with the way you speak to people on here.

That's happened a few times, sure. Running my mouth also cost me a job ten years ago. Peacefully protesting my views also got me battered by a couple of police and thrown in a cell.

Threats of violence aren't always the great deterrent that you think they are.

Sweeping. Very sweeping.

I know people, including members of my own family, who voted for Trump. They have values. They balanced his obnoxiousness against who he was running against. He seemed the better bet. It wasn't about him. It was about perceived local jobs/ business support. Small rural communities voted for his policies in droves. Not for him. My Uncle called him a "moron".

"Make America Great Again" was the headline slogan but it resonated with so many small communities bereft of jobs and investment.

Kudos to his team because it was the way to win.

In a hypothetical world, who would your family/friends have voted for in 2016 if it was Bernie vs Trump?

I can somewhat make sense of voting for Trump if it was viewed as standard, status-quo, wall street, no change at all, keep everything exactly the same Hilary vs Trump who was promising all kinds of nonsense he didn't believe in and had no intention of fulfilling.

How do those family members feel about him now?

Exactly. It's all f*cked up. The message behind the protests is lost in the noise which is exactly how the White House have played it. The Orange idiot tries to come across all military dictator, cracking heads and being brave in his bunker.

The right wing always frame these things as culture wars.

Trump is not speaking to his diverse nation, but to his base, and he's telling them that these rioters are coming for their way of life, and the only one stopping them is him.
