The following member posted this in the Southampton thread due to him not being able to create a new thread of his own. I think it deserves it's own recognition...

ASmith...

As I am new on the forum I am unable to start a new topic, however I cannot let it go unnoticed that it was George Smith's birthday yesterday (7th February) Manchester City's oldest surviving player at the age of 92 and I think this should be recognised and am surprised the club have not commemorated Grandpa more highly!

Wishing George a very happy 92nd birthday.

Does anyone know when George played for City and any involvement in notable games.

Thank you very much for creating this thread! Usually my father would be the one to get involved but since he passed away last year I couldn't leave it unnoticed so Thank you for your help!

From Wikipedia ...

George Beacher Smith (born 7 February 1921) is an English former footballer who was born in Fleetwood, Lancashire and who played in the inside forward position. He played for Manchester City and Chesterfield between 1946 and 1958.

Smith signed for Manchester City in May 1938, but had to wait until 1946 before making his debut in an official first-team match because of World War II. He went on to play 166 league games for City, and scored 75 goals.

George 'actively' played for City between the years 1946-1951.
