The Premier League is notorious physical and, as is well known, the Germans don't like it up em.
I think you'll find it was the fuzzy-wuzzies Matty.

Here was me thinking it was the rag heads.
No deffo the fuzzy-wuzzies. It's the Germans who don't like you mentioning the war.

Just thinking about this hearing about Boateng going back to Germany. You'd think German players wouldn't struggle that much but how many have really made it?

Didi Hamann and Jurgen Klinsmann stand out but where are the others? Ballack was so-so, Roberth Huth is OK but not really an established international. Not many others come to mind. Why do people think this is?

There's Chairmans and then there's Trautmann und Rösler!

The number of english players, that have made it in the Bundesliga, is as short as that. Not to forget the coaches.
There is a long tradition of germans in Serie A, starting with Helmut Haller and KH Schnellinger in the 60ties, later followed by Briegel, Klinsmann, Matthäus, Völler. Häßler, Effenberg. They all loved playing there and especially living there.
Netzer, Breitner, Schuster and Stielike then started the exodus to Spain and this is another dream country for german players. Don´t think Özil ever thought about the PL.
Maybe it´s the weather :-)

Kevin Keegan was idolised in Germany, Tony Woodcock didn't do badly either.

Owen Hargreaves as well.

Here's a few Englishmen who played in the German Bundesliga over the years...

Alan Clarke – Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin – 1986–87
Mark Farrington – Hertha BSC Berlin – 1990–91
Kevin Keegan – Hamburger SV – 1977–80
Dave Watson – SV Werder Bremen – 1979–80
Tony Woodcock – 1. FC Köln – 1979–82 and 1986–88

Clarke, Alan
Farrington, Mark
Hargreaves, Owen
Keegan, Kevin
Mancienne, Michael
Watson, Dave
Woodcock, Anthony

and from Wales and Scottland:

Hughes, Mark
Thomas, Dean
Thomas, Wayne
Booth, Scott
Kerr, Kevin
Lambert, Paul
MacLeod, Murdo
McGhee, Mark
McInally, Alan
O´Neil, Brian

that is even less than the only 38 germans in the Premier League
