It's supposed to be the biggest day of the bride's life. Surely she is worth more than a cheapo wedding?

That is bullshit. It is about commiting to each other and having a nice day celebrating with your closest family and friends. I would rather do that without being £10k+ lighter the next day. The bride to be thinks so too.

I agree with you ..... Sort of!

I hate the fact weddings cost so much, 28K is the average! Thats a deposit on a house for god sake, I cant justify spending that on a day!
However, I only intend to get married once so I would like to be able to enjoy the day, and not have to count pennies on the things like food and outfits.......
Fine line I think......... *Ponders*

Our wedding cost less than £3000. The venue, food, dj, licence etc cost about £1500, the rest (dress, suits, flowers etc) cost another £1500. How anyone can spend £28000 is beyond me! We got married at 4pm, so we didnt need to have a wedding breakfast. Whilst we had photos taken, the guests were in our private bar. Then we straight into the speeches, followed by the buffet. A budget wedding can still be good.

Cheers will take a look. Our wedding is going to cost around the same I think. The more I can save on things like cars, dj and photographer the better. We are not materialistic people and We are gaurunteed to remember the day as it is the day we commit the rest of our lives together.

Ask him how much he would want pal.

Our plans are
Married at Registry office then some pictures in the park next door. Up to Roe cross for wedding breakfast(guests paying for their own). Then mingle for a bit untill more guests arrive for the doo (Cake payed for by my mum) . Spend the night in honeymoon suite(payed for by my Dad).
Honeymoon can be arranged at a later date.

Ask for cash towards a honeymoon instead of gifts.

Good thinking.

Getting married next month and trying to keep costs down. We decided not to have a DJ, just going to make a playlist on an MP3 player and play it over the hotel's sound system.

For wedding photography, we found a student doing photography at a local university, and allowed them to use the photos in their portfolio. We're paying £150 for that, saving a fortune!

If you're doing it in a hotel, it'll probably be cheaper to book the missus into a room there the night before than hire wedding cars. Not as glamorous an entrance obviously, but if you're trying to save money, it's definitely the way to go.

We're also having a wishing well at our reception, we asked our guests for cash instead of presents so we can have a honeymoon, and avoid all the tat that people were going to buy for us. We live in a fully furnished rented flat, so would have been wasted.

All food and whatnot was included with the wedding package at the hotel, which was an offer of £65 per guest, including a bridal suite for ourselves and rooms for both sets of parents.

The bride's roses and all table centrepieces were bought from Dunelm mill and look really good and were dirt cheap. Everyone has commented on how the bride's bouquet looks amazing, and cost us in the region of £6 :D

My wedding cost a fortune but it was worth it i couldnt imagine doing it on a grand our wedding rings cost not far off that but hey each to their own and all that.

My wedding was really small and intimate. We have been together 18 years and really happy. I would've spent any amount, but she wanted it like that. Afterwards, we travelled to such amazing places a percentage of people will only see on telly. I am a realist, these massive weddings are more for show than anything else. A lad i used to work with, spent £32k on his wedding. He is still in debt because of it now, his missus has some pictures hanging in the living room, a dress in the loft and no honeymoon memories.

But as you say each to their own.

Were getting married at the end of next January. We are having a church wedding, wedding car, reception with wedding breakfast for 60 guests + drinks package, flowers, dress, suit and ring x1 (im not having one, hate rings), photographer, live band in the evening and buffet, all for under £5000. All this "average" wedding cost £28,000 bollocks is because people WANT to spend that much. Granted we are doing ours in January so things will be a little cheaper. For presents, we will be asking for vouchers from the Flight Centre in town to sort out our honeymoon. We live in a rented townhouse tso dont need any presents as such. Weddings can be done at what ever price you want really. Im pretty sure there wont be much difference in our £5000 wedding to the "average" wedding which costs nearly 6 TIMES more!!! Do your homework and you can save a fortune.

Had a look at the function room on friday. Looks good and can have it for free aswell.

Any more DJ's or cars that anybody can help me with?

You not got any mates willing to DJ with an ipod?

Not really. Anybody know what the average cost for a dj is? Been quoted £150 for the night time function. Is that cheap?
