Problem is going to be the return if driving, A500 closure/down to one lane for night time road works from 21:00hrs if coming back North

There are some good B&B's etc in and around Congleton. Perhaps it would be wise to book early.

Is anyone chancing the M6?

For Villa, Birmingham and Wolves the traffic on the M6 was chuffing apalling - 50 mph average speed check every few miles. Wont be able to leave till about 5.30 because of work so might be cutting it a bit fine. I'm thinking of going down the A34 via Congleton. Anyone tried this route before?

ta

Depends where you are setting off from. Avoid Alderley Edge at all costs.

Going straight from work in wilmslow so should be able to go on the A34 bypass to avoid Alderley Edge.

There is no Alderley Edge by-pass.

A34 Wilmslow ends at Alderly edge mate.
Take the exit at Wilmslow high and go right at the next roundabout past all the fuck off houses that road takes you in to alserly avoiding the roundabout at the bottom of the 34.
If your feeling cockey just before you get to the main rd through Alderly turn on to Trafford rd and it will bypass most of alderly and put you on the road for "over Alderly".
I'd be a shit Sat nav me!
