Given...Hart...Given...Hart...

Overall defensive game as well as distribution from the back will improve so much once Given is there.

I was speaking to a friends father about this before the transfer window (on the presumption that we would bid for an experienced keeper come January). This guy spent years at City as number two to one of our greatest ever goalies & he said that if we were to bring someone in, he thought Joe would move on & that he would actually advise him to do so.

Teams that would take Joe are not going to be the likes of the top 4 sides plus Villa, at this exact moment in the lads career (ie to play in their first teams). I can understand that he's tasted blood and he wants more, but keepers don't come into their own until they are 28 or 29 and go on until 37 or 38 at least.

Its about the team lads, Given would come in because we need every defensive boost we can get, he knows the game, he knows the league, he's experienced, and he's better than Hart.

We all love Hart to bits but he's only 20 or 21 or something, and he's not stupid enough to not realise we would be looking for a new keeper because we simply dont have the experience in that area. If anything its a good way for him to get rid of bad habbits and learn a lot from a very good international regular keeper.

He'd get a lot of game time next season with new cup prospects and the odd league match if Given is injured. Hart isnt going to find many takers in the league willing to give him guaranteed first team football, and clubs that will won't be challenging for anything anytime soon, all the top 4 and Villa have good keepers and plenty of backup, especially the rags.

Theres no coin toss here, Given has CL, UEFA cup and World cup experience, we'll get a good few seasons out of him before he moves on again and Hart will be older and wiser because of it if he sticks with us. Five years down the line I'd love to see Hart our undisputed number one.

Agreed and I'd also to think undisputed England Number 1 as well.

It's a great choice to have to make and one any other Club in the world would like to have...

Two quality keepers, one 21 and with the definite prospect of an England career ahead of him, the other 32 and a loyal servant of Newcastle and made the Team of the Season twice in mostly thin times and has 91 International caps including one World cup finals appearance.

Hart has plenty of time...

For England, which is where he should ultimately be aiming, he should have his eyes on the 2014 World cup when he'll be 27... 26 at the start of qualifying...

For City, he can take his chance in the UEFA Cup team this season as Given won't be registered for that. A good run for him and the team and who knows a hero's performance in a penalty shoot-out or two...? He's already won one for us so this can be his focus while Given probably takes over the league games for now then Hughes has a choice to make to keep both happy, motivated and performing.

Every great side has a great keeper, we now have two... probably!

Win-Win

There is nothing wrong with punching the ball as long as you can punch it well. Casillas and Buffon, probably the 2 best 'keepers in the world, opt to punch 9 times out of 10 over catching.

I would feel extremely sorry for Hart if he were to be replaced straight away.. but to be fair, goalkeepers don't peak until they're late 20s/early 30s. Hopefully he will stick around, learn of Given, and be much better for it in a few years.

Dont care what anyone says...punching the ball is the best option..( as far as poss obviously)

cech tried to catch it in the euros and look what happened..

its all about the bigger picture, shay will be number one, breathing down his neck is joe hart, a good keeper that will soon be englands first choice. shay HAS to perform.when joe is playing he has a 10m keeping chomping at the bit to get back in. we can't lose. once the trophies start coming and we make real progress no one will want to leave, all the players need to realise that.

a good squad at last, brilliant:)

If we drop Hart straight away & before Given had proved himself to us then i'd fully expect a transfer request put in asap by Hart.
