Tell you what he's had a heck of a debut... 3 fantastic saves to keep us at 0-0 going into half time. I knew he was good but it's nice to see him making an instant impact. Don't get me wrong I think Joe Hart is our future but Given's distribution seems to be better (less hoofing) and his positioning and reactions have been outstanding. One wonders how many of those saves Hart would have made.

I'm really struggling to decide on my MotM - either Ireland or Given, although Given has made the more important contribution so far. Here's hoping Ireland gets a goal or two in the second as he deserves them on this performance.

If that first one went in Hughes would not have been happy with Richards, shocking defending. Not even close to Alves.

Well that settles it for me - Given for MotM by a country mile... he had a couple of really important saves to make which kept us in the game. We should really have got a second goal because borough could have scored on a couple of their counter attacks. The big thing we need to learn is how to kill off games - we created a lot of chances but our excecution of the was poor. Robinho in particular should have done better with a few of those chances.

It only looks as if Bellamy has full-confidence in front of goal. The others look a little hesitant or doubtful when they have a chance. Given my MOM.

very impressed with Given's debut. against a crap team, true--but alves and king are fairly dangerous up front, the kind who can hurt you even when you dominate the run of play. hopefully hart isn't dismayed as he can learn a lot from this guy.

Ned also looked pretty good i thought. Micah needs to get his head sorted, but i am confident he'll eventually realize his potential. signing Given will allow our defense to develop. as much as i'm a long standing de Jong fan, Given will turn out to be the best signing of hte window, because he will not only have the immediate impact on the pitch he had tonight, but he will directly help the development of Hart and indirectly Ned and Micah.

Totally agree about de jong, he looked very comfortable and apart from a couple of stray long balls his passing was direct and very neat. Looks promising CTID

Shay was immense today and I thought his distribution was excellent. I know there where a lot of people saying why do we need a keeper because we have Hart, but today I think we saw the difference of having a top class keeper rather than the best promising keeper in goal. Although Joe will be disappointed, he can learn more from training with Shay and hopefully stepping in to his shoes 3 or 4 years down the line.

Brilliant performance by Given. Can we put the shaky defence down to yet another change at the back?(ie Given himself)
