Glastonbury 2023

Arctic Monkeys seem to be getting a lot of stick. I don't really understand it. yeah they have changed but I think it's the fact they evolved musically and in their style is part of the reason why they're still headlining Glastonbury.

had they just kept trying to recreate that first album, they would have probably faded away like most of the bands from that 2000s era and just become some nostalgia act for people in their thirties wanting to be 18 again for a night at the o2 academy or something.

Fair play to them I say, they were smart enough to know how stay on top in their game.

Then again maybe I'm being biased as I've been in band supporting them quite a few times and found them to be good lads. Turner isn't doing that crooner act off stage of course. Either way, I think if you take it for what it is then they put on a really good show, but if you're expecting Alex Turner to return to being a spotty teenager in a hoodie and jeans knocking out the first album tracks, then you're gonna be disappointed.

Great post mate.

Genuinely loved last nights performance, thought they where brilliant and Turner was superb.

I'd rather have watched Rick Astley as headline last night rather than the Yorkshire dullards pretending to be Arctic Monkeys.
Absolutely, young Rick has now set a high bar for the rest of the days acts. Sang well, played guitar and drums, engaged with the crowd. Thought Glastonbury organisers missed a trick by not putting Rick and The Luddites on another stage on another day.

Anyway at least Manics later

Having spent the morning on catch up I would recomend

Young Fathers
Los Bitchos
billynomates
Gabriels
and for a bit of out there other cultures music ADG7

Rick is playing a hugely entertaining set here, fair play to him.

I've gotta say, as someome who wasn't born when he come about, it always seems these performers from bygone eras seem to have a much better level of stage craft than modern artists.

I guess it's because back then you had to do the rounds to get recognition, whereas now you can pretty much get picked up off social media without having played a proper gig.
