Glastonbury 2025

Back again in 2027.

Early prediction for headliners: Oasis, Green Day, and Sabrina Carpenter on the Pyramid Stage. Dolly Parton in the legends slot. Haim, Miley Cyrus, and the Chemical Brothers headlining the Other Stage.
No chance on Oasis and Green Day.

Think they need to have a good think about who they want to headline in 2027 to correct some of the issues with the past couple of years headliners having small crowds.

The last time they had 3 headliners that packed the Pyramid Stage was in 2023 but they got slated for having all white, male headliners. (Arctic Monkeys, Guns N Roses and Elton John)

The subsequent set in 2024 meant they forced an additional female onto the billing in SZA who really shouldn’t have been there. It was the smallest headline crowd they’ve ever had and it made the rest of the site overcrowded.

This year they took a gamble on The 1975 but ultimately just not that many festival goers like them. Neil Young was simply too old for a lot of the people there. Only Olivia Rodrigo had a big enough crowd I’d say.

I always feel that the misjudge the popularity of music from the 90’s and 2000’s. In the past couple of years, the acts that have packed out stages have been the likes of Pulp, The Prodigy, Alanis, Snow Patrol in 2025 and LCD Soundsystem, Kasabian, Avril Lavigne, James, The Streets, Two Door Cinema Club, The Sugababes, The Vaccines and Bloc Party in 2024.

Not to mention Goldie Looking Chain

Prodigy woke the whole crowd up at Knebworth, especially after the bootleg Beatles had been on.

Very memorable day
Prodigy were on hours after the Bootleg Beatles. Ocean Colour Scene and the Manics both played great sets, which helped kicked things into gear after the boredom of watching the Chemical Brothers (who were the strangest booking that day). But I completely agree the Prodigy were incredible. I'd never seen anything like it before, and still haven't to this day.

If you want to discuss any political fallout from the festival, make a thread about it in the politics forum.

Just discuss the music in here.

On that note, just listened to Myles Smith's set for the 2nd time, class act.

Has to be said that I wasn't expecting Olivia Rodrigo to be the standout headliner. was expecting "just another teeny bopper girl singer" but she was actually very good. bringing Robert Smith out for a team up was a massive statement move for her I think.

She's very good, I say that knowing I'm not her target audience but she can perform.
She was in with the crowd watching Pulp earlier in the weekend too, seems a decent girl.

Ye I'm watching her now. Very good and only a kid really.

Neil Young was a good headliner when he did it about 2009 or 2010 but even then I don't think he had the biggest of crowds and id say the demographics of the festival have shifted since then.

Also, being realistic, as much as I like his music, the majority of people can recognise about a couple of his tunes at best. It's not the fact he's old, he hasn't got that many big hit tunes, unlike a McCartney or Elton John, who most average music listeners can recognise plenty of their tunes. Neil Young is a legend in music but he's quite niche in a way, in comparison to most headliners who can knock out a greatest hits set that almost anyone can recognise.

Some would say it's a good thing having a headliner like that, but id say most of today's festival goers would prefer someone for a good sing along.

But then considering the lack of guitar bands that are considered pretty new, there's almost none that are big enough to headline really.

So if you want modern acts that are big enough to headline the festival, you've really only got pop artists. If it's not them, then they mostly have to turn to old farts like McCartney and Young, or the usual headliners like Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys etc

As for the likes of The Vaccines and Bloc Party, although they're decent festival bands, some of them can barely sell out academy sized venues on their own tour. It's not easy to tell people to stump up Glastonbury ticket prices and some of your main features are bands that can't sell out a major arena and you could see at festivals like Kendall Calling for less. So I get why they don't really favor these kind of acts over others.

FOC Sunday on the Pyramid stage:

Pauline Black 71
Nile Rogers 72
Scotch Rod 134
Lulu 76
Prick Hucknall 65
Ronnie Wood 78

And still kicking.
Yet not one of them thought it was cool to go on stage with a cigarette and a Guinness. These have been there, done that and got the t-shirt. Will have forgotten more than most performers at Glastonbury will ever know.

Oh I agree. I can see them going down the road of a Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan in 2027 because they are what is most popular these days. But I think neither will be good enough and both will see smaller than anticipated crowds.

Yeah the likes of Bloc Party, The Vaccines and Two Door Cinema Club are never headline worthy, but they packed out their stages last year, I’d say more went to see each of them than SZA who headlined.

The lack of big enough newer bands to headline at the minute are killing it a bit. I’d say Wunderhorse could do it if they continue to build on their great Midas album. Fontaines DC are probably best placed but I don’t think they’d book them, even though I think they’d fill the Pyramid. Certainly more than the likes of The 1975 and Neil Young did anyway.

Got in from an afternoon pint yesterday and turned Glastonbury on.
Too my delight it was Black Uhuru's set, perfect timing.
It took me back to my first couple of times in the early 80's when not only they were on but proper reggae was all over the site, from bands on stage to all night sound systems.
Given the furor over some of this weekends bands i had a wry smile, remembering that Black Uhuru were, at the time, on secret service watch lists and considered by the establishment to be a 'threat' to the state.
After that i watched Turnstile, who's raw energy, excitement and general young people having a blast vibe almost moved me to tears.

What was the reaction to Nial Rodgers and Chic? I know their set doesn't change much but for me it is always entertaining just wondering how he went down at Glastonbury.

Fontaines will headline the other stage after their next album, or be second billing on pyramid- they were the biggest act at the park stage last year and in the last 6 months of 2024 became one of the biggest bands in the world.
