When was the last time the top flight was settled on GD? 1989/90?

Goal difference will not matter at the end of this season.
We played(obviously), won, drew, lost and conceded exactly the same and had exactly the same points as Chelsea last season yet they scored 9 more goals than us. That meant we finised third not second. I'd rather take my side of the argument since I have a fact from just three months ago!
bang on there

another ten goals and we would have made the champions league group stage
Funny! But it would have earned us about £2.8m extra because that's what happens when you finsih higher up the league, you earn more money!

-- Tue Aug 30, 2011 8:59 am --

Not read much of the discussion, have you? I must have said twenty times I'm extatic with the result and we're just discussing a certain thing. Nobody is complaining - well apart from the ones moaning at us who are having a proper discussion - so what's up with just having a chat about stuff?
I was talking to the OP .
but like i said we can't do anything about it now can we though?
I like to discuss the ins-and-outs of all games we've played. Should I stop doing this now because you've realised we can't change results with hyndsight?!

the difference in the placings is approx £650,000
and we finished joint second (sic) because Chelsea took their foot completely off the pedal after their dismal showings at the swamp, and knowing the manager was being axed

Well I'm happy with winning 5-1 against Spurs away from home. The rags beat Spurs 3-0 at home last week. Yes, it was a good win from them on Sunday but anyone could have beaten the severely depleated side that Arsenal put out. Some people are just never satisfied. Unbelievable!

People need to stop comparing results vs each team.

The only unbelievable thing is the constant responses like yours throughout the thread. I'll have to leave this thread for good because people aren't getting it! But I'll say one final time: I'm more than satisfied, as a fan I'm fucking extatic with our start to the season, especially that performance and result on Sunday at Spurs. It's BRILLIANT and I'm BUZZING! But there's always room for improvement, as there's no such thing as perfection [and I've used numerous examples from various sports throughout my posts in this thread from Pep Guardiola at Barca, to the South Africa rugby union side, Michael Jordan, boxers, Rugby league.. I've added a lot more to the discussion than people posting "FFS" or calling the OP names] and we can improve by not easing off as games don't finish until the final whistle blows, they don't end when there's a bit of breathing space while the game is going on. When we eased off, they scored. And we definately could have scored more and avoided conceding if we'd continued to apply ourselves as we did in the first 65-70minutes! There will be players and members of our management team who will not think that is good enough, which is a good thing because it's not good enough from a club point of view (taking my fan head off) even if it's a fucking marvelous result (leaving my fan head on)!

Well people are comparing City and united results on Monday. I was trying to make the point that City played a brilliant game of football against Spurs and there will always be someone who is not satisfied and complains. I'm just enjoying the 5-1 win. That is all.

Do you ever see Barca, Real or United take their foot off the pedal?

FFS we were 1 man up. How is it unreasonable to expect to attack when they are one man down, with jack shit in front of goal except Crouch's header and Bales feeble shot?

For those that are happy with 5-1, good for you. Mancini is clearly not. The game is not played while comparing to last years result or the 15 years before that. If so we should have gotten an extra CB on after our 2nd goal.

Complacency is the biggest danger of quality teams. Simple as that.

I do not say there is not room for improvement but I am saying, again, that I am enjoying the 5-1 win.

actually falling over laughing here, we just scored 5 goals at White Hart Lane, a place where we struggled to get a point last year and the home of what (despite their start) is likely to be a contender for a top 4 position! also weve scored 12 goals in 3 games, are some people genuinely complaining here, hahahahahahahahahah!

barca do it every game. in fact they did it tonight just after 55 mins in the game.

foot off the pedal , slow down and keep possession waiting for a chance to come. and this is exactly what we need to learn to do.

You're both completely and utterly wrong. We aren't complaining! Get it in yer fucking sweeds!

can somebody tell bobby we might be relying on goal difference come the last day of the season, and ask him why the team fannied around for the last 30 mins ??

did the current chamions ease off in their game ?

You want a serious reply OK.

You don't like Mancini and you never will so you are desperately fishing round for anything you can criticise him for. The word "pathetic" came to my mind reading your post .There's an old saying "If you can't say anything nice about someone don't say anything at all". I think this forum would benefit from a prolonged silence on your part.

i consider the world has gone completely mental now after reading this thread!

no one would have said a bloody dicky bird if the scum hadn't have scored so many goals against the weakest arsenal team in the past 20 odd years.

yet we played almost the same team that battered us last season.

ah well goes to show we cant please every one all of the time!

BUT I AM PLEASED!!! I'M FUCKING BUZZING!!! What is it people are not getting?! And how come I said this during our game before the Rags even kicked off?!

I'm off, the intelegence levels of Bluemoon has reached an all time low! How can people think that I'm complaining or moaning or whatever when I'm actually saying I'm extatic with it but saying where we could have just done that little bit better - just like Mancini will be as he wasn't completely happy after the game(!)

One side of the argument is we were in the ascendancy and we should of gone for more goals, so as to improve our goal difference.

The second side of the argument is that we played great away against a top 4 rival who had pretty much their strongest line up out there, and complaining as some have done is the thread is a complete over reaction and is only here as a result of the rags beating arsenal reserves 8-2 (credit to them for that).

Well i can say i'm firmly in favour of the second argument and if that makes me pig-headed, ignorant, arrogant, stuck up etc. Well then ...

...Fuck you nobhead my opinions right and i dont give a shit what you say because your a rag!! ;-)

The ironing.
Pathetic! I'm on my phone whilst watching athletics and eating my breakfast and this isn't an English exam. Your post says a lot more about you than my spelling does about me. Think on that...

Plus if you'd done your job as an English teacher properley you wouldv noticed I used "has" when I should have used "have" but my phone changes it (annoyingly) even when I actually want to use "have". God knows why! So why did you oversee that one, Miss?!

my post wasn't really directed at you mate i can see your points and mancini wasn't happy at conceding the goal not the whole game in general id say.

some have been reeled in by what the scum did more than what we did that's what i find strange 2 different games with so many different situations i consider ours the better win for those situations.

So many posters on here have misunderstood the OP it's unbelievable. I'm with Smee 100%. No one would argue that 5-1 at what has often been a graveyard for us was absolutely fantastic, but I was there, and every one around me was saying 'Let's not take our foot off the gas' at 4-0 but we did - it can't be denied. We were playing keep ball and taking the piss, with the ball going back to Joe, whereas whenever it went up front, we looked like scoring. It was still great, and very entertaining to take the piss out of spurs like that, but look what the scummers did to Arsenal when they were at their weakest - they kept going and didn't ease off.

What's more, we took off aguero and put savic on when Spurs were down to 10 men - i can't believe that Mancini hasn't been slated in the press for that.

Yes it's hard/harsh to be critical after an overall brilliant performance, but that was a day when we could have had 8 - or more - as well as the scum. It looks increasingly like it's going to be a race between us and them, and anytime we have a chance to get an even bigger hatful, we should take it, because, 1 thing is for sure - they will! Goal difference counts today and we're second as a result - this maybe the season when it counts in May as well. There'll be a lot of occasions when managers put out weak teams at O.T. and they'll get bags full of goals at home - they always do. Not sure it will be the same for us yet. Yes, 5 at Spurs was unbelievable but we have to more than match the scum over the season, and when we've got our foot on the snakes neck, never relax. That's what the OP was saying. Not complaining; just wanting it to be even better when the opportunity presents itself. The title of the thread is ''Goal Diff''.
