Going veggie.

Most Indian food is veggie. Stick to that and smell wonderful.
I worked on a Sikh temple a couple of years ago in Leeds and was kindly asked If I was hungry. The ladies were cooking home made veggie food in the kitchen and the smell was wonderful so I duly obliged the offer. Best dish was the chick pea dahl with chapattis. All they asked was that I kept my hard hat on as It's customary to cover ones head in there. They wouldn't take a penny off me either. Friendly peace loving people are Sikhs.

Interested to know if anyone else has gone veggie, it's something i have thought about for a little while and have decided to give it a go. I'm struggling if i'm honest and have slipped a couple of times over the last 5 weeks.

I never realised until i tried this how difficult it can be to get a meat free meal if you go out anywhere, most places have options but they are quite limited.

I was wondering if any veggies out there went at it 100% from day one or did they gradually cut down, i have had it suggested to me that i allow myself fish as a treat if i lose my willpower and then slowly reduce this until I am off meat completely. I can see what they mean but it seems to defeat the object.

Any advice?

If you're looking to bolster your willpower bud just watch video's and read articles on how they treat livestock, my girlfriend's been a vegetarian for over 30 years since she was a young teenager so I get to see plenty of stuff, it even puts me off and I used to eat around 10 kilo's of meat a week (insert innuendo).

If you need a 'meat hit', try the quorn steak strips (Asda do them) , I can taste the difference still although it's not too bad, but the bird won't touch it as she says it's too much like the real thing, other than that, learn to cook, some of the most amazing food I've ever had has been vegetarian.

I did the vegetarian thing for about 5 years - but switched to a pescatarian diet 10 years ago. I just found it hard to get good protein sources as a vegetarian. I know they have all the fake meat made from soy but some of the literature I've read about the impact of excessive soy protein on men scared me a bit regardless if 100% accurate or not. Besides, I like a good fish taco or shrimp fajita every now and again.

As we said before mate the quorn mince is nicer than proper mince and makes excellent chilli.
I can just about stomach it in a lasgne but its just mush in a chilli plus having now married the veggie I dont have to try it anymore ;-) Lean Steak Mince for all your chilli's Lasgne's cottage pies etc...

Do you love animals or do you just like the thought of people having to make special arrangements if they want to feed you? Do you think your special?!?! Aye......aye?

Being a veggie nowadays is easy compared to when I tried it 35 years ago. A punk friend lectured me on animal cruelty etc, so I felt guilty enough to try it. He was Vegan and suggested i go vegan, so I tried it briefly. There in my canvas pumps eating Tortex(IIRC) on toast. Tortex was a yeast based paste with added pureed veg in it. Tasted fucking vile tbh, but my mate virtually lived off the shit!

I also tried packet veggie burgers but they turned out like eating a slice of salted cardboard, so I went back to meat shortly after.

Wimpy used to do a really tasty spicy bean burger with cheese. I had quite a few from the one opposite Piccadilly gardens back in the day.
