What drama to end the season!!! Down here in Pompey the sky is Blue and it's gonna be a barbecue, and we're all rooting for your boys. Over the season City have been discussed many times pre-match in the pubs here, and our group, and I'm sure 95% of our fans want your fairytale to come true. Reasons comes thick and fast...here are some:
1. City fans have been to hell and back but have stayed with the team in many dark hours.
2. With United as your successful neighbours it would be easy to jump on their bandwagon..or even give up going to football altogether,
3. The ungraciousness of Fergie over the years, a nasty vindictive hyprocrite.
4. Mancini an absolute gentleman who has kept his wits and control for the whole season.

But the main reason is for you fans who have kept the faith through a succession of regimes that have promised the earth and failed you. You are a big club, and with your support should have been at the top table decades ago.

I was lucky enough to see your last Championship team at Stamford Bridge as a teenager living in London in the 60's. I remember nothing of the game except a line from the Sunday papers that John Boyle was sent off for 'leaving a lump the size of an egg' on Colemans(?) leg. That was a lifetime ago.

I remember well the day of the Bradford fire. 8000 of us were at Huddersfield hoping against all odds you would fail at home to Charlton....some hope. At the end of the game sketchy reports of the fire began to filter through.

I remember well how you destroyed our run in for promotion in 1985...looking at this vid you guys seem to rather enjoy it!!!!

Who can forget Ben Thatchers assault on Pedro? But things like that don't colour perceptions...players are transients but fans are constants and you guys have proved over the years you are a bit special.

Lucky enough to see both Napoli games (my mother is Neapolitan) I count myself lucky to have met quite a few of you out there, including Bilboblu. However one story from Napoli sticks out for me. I was dining in a small restaurant (Nennellas) in the very dodgy Spanish Quarters when 2 city fans suddenly appeared. One was in a wheelchair, and both sporting huge grins. It must have been very hard for the guy pushing the wheelchair UPHILL over the flagstones.

These guys got a great reception from the proprietor and I could hear the Neapolitans talking on adjacent tables...basically along the lines that these City fans were really special guys. Not only had a disabled fan made the long journey uphill but they had entered one of Napoli's heartlands with smiles on their faces. You should be really proud of these 2 guys!!!

Great post pete.My first memory was in 1977 when Stockport played Portsmouth on a friday night.There was loads of Pompey fans there,6.57 crew? As a 16 year old was a bit scary,but they was no trouble if I remember correct. Good luck in the 3rd.Those 2 Cup Finals recently must seem its like many years ago.

Just like to second the good luck wishes - this from a West Ham supporter.

I never speak for anyone but myself but I do know that there's always been a soft spot for your mob in our corner of the world going WELL back - the famous relegation match in 1986 and the respective actions of both sets of supporters is still spoken about now (and how far away must that feel for some of your old timers this morning!) - so I'm sure East London will be cheering Blue come 3pm.
