Good Manager or Bad Manager

Good manager in a lot of ways, but dreadful in the transfer market, as a result may well be more suited to international football than domestic.

Did he not buy Joe Hart got Riera on loan think he got Vassell also gave Richards, Ireland, their chance.

Also bought that Matthew Milles who is making a name for himself in the lower leagues expect him to be in the top flight soon.

Pearce was very unlucky with City!

KK left him in the lurch! players respeonded to that with a fantastic end to the season - i think they all felt for Pearce and wanted to play and do well for him!
When he was appointed as manager-proper he was in a difficult position as i think he really wanted to stay and do well at City as he'd grown to like the club in his years as a player and coach with us, but it just wasnt the right time for him! He had very little and limited experience/knowledge/skills as a manager and City were fucking skint! - He was sacked!

But he's doing the right thing, he's gone off to learn and enhance the experience/knowledge/skills required for the job!
I think his next move in 2 years time should be to a Championship club or even a move to a Dutch/Belgian/Scottish/lower league level - this will enhance him further and allow him to gain an understand of what you have to do in a top league but on a smaller less pressurised scale! Then maybe a move to a Prem team, maybe 5 years after that, will be the right move for him and should be any manager because you cant really be ready for managing in the Pren/LaLiga unless you've got a good solid background of building up your reputation first!

2 of the most successful managers in English football history (Fergie and Clough) both learnt their trades, if you like, before coming into the bigtime and succeeding!

Top player, Nice bloke, Poor manager. was it 10 goals in the league at home? There are City fans who didnt renew after that season, who still haven't renewed.
I never wanted him as manager but a lot did, he had done nothing in management before.
Wish him all the best though, and hope he does well with the U21s.

Like the guy but that was the worst season i can remember watchin us since i got my first season ticket in 1990. First time i really felt like knocking it all on the fuckin head. Seemed to get beat 1-0 every other week.

The reason I didn't renew my season ticket after THAT season with him at the helm. It was the worst I have ever seen. We were fucking abysmal. We were fucking boring to watch. That wasn't all his fault though. He didn't have much to work with in regards to players and not exactly flush with cash to buy well. He set his team out to not get beat and we survived due to that, but I don't think he'd have carried it on for a sustained period. He'll turn out to be a good one eventually.

He still has alot to learn. To be fair he came and steadied the ship, after Keegan left us sinking into lower table mediocrity, and was a penalty kick away from Europe. We made a promising start to the season after, but a poor finish, 15th and something like 4 points off relegation, and from then on, it just continued, got worse even. Yes, I know he had limited cash, but apart from Hart and Vassell, all his signings were poor. From what I heard (this is just rumours and papertalk so don't take it as gospal truth), training was poor and there was alot of indiscipline. The Dabo-Barton incident was waiting to happen for a while. The 2 full seasons we had under Pearce, were just not good enough, seeing the likes of Wigan, Bolton, and Reading finish above us, should not be happening.

I think it all goes to show that no matter how good you are as a manager, coach, tactician, unless you have substantial funds to bring in world class players and pay them world class salaries, or are lucky enough to have a steady stream of youngsters coming through, you will not achieve at the highest level. Ferguson is a classic case. Bugger all at East Stirlingshire, moderate success at Aberdeen, but the minute you get your hands on some real solid dosh, you can buy players for 20 or 30 million, season in and season out.

I thought he was terminally hampered by the bigger picture at the club. We were skint, he had to sell/lose star name players like SWP and rely on free signings, loans and the academy boys.

Clearly he made a mistake with his one big signing of Samaras but that was one £6m player. Sven and Hughes have both probably wasted more than that.

He didn't get us relegated which was a miracle seeing as we hardly scored a goal all season. It was shit to watch but he kept us up in circumstances where we could easily have been relegated. It was his first big job so overall I don't think he disgraced himself.

I'd love it if he became really successful and maybe came back one day but I can't see it. I don't think his tactics will ever be good enough to be a top manager. I think he'll always be a lower half of the Premier League type manager. The new Sam Allardyce.

Good luck to him though, great football bloke. Always told it as it was and never had a pop at referees. I have a lot of respect for him, especially his reaction to Corradi getting sent off at the swamp for getting a second yellow card.
