Good players remembered for one overwhelmingly bad f***-up.

The late Sandy Brown of Everton, at home to Liverpool during the title-winning season of 1969-70, scoring 'the own-goal of own-goals' in a 0-3 defeat.

Notwithstanding the fact that he won the First Division title while being manager Harry Catterick's go-to player in every position (he even once played in goal for Everton), nor that he eventually became one of the best left-backs on the planet (he often had 'Buzzer' in his pocket when we played them), this headed own-goal sadly became the thing that he was best known for.

I met him several times after he retired, when visiting mutual friends in Poulton-le-Fylde, where he played for Poulton Town. He was a really lovely man, incredibly kind.. the last guy you'd want to have to carry around with him that sort of 'claim to fame'!

No; sorry. Even though I'm not aware of the OG you refer to, that "honour" you mention belongs to Jamie Pollock. Anyone that tees up an OG is truly special. Even Dunney never did that.

Scott Carson. Was a decent keeper then made that error v Croatia and it stuck with him.

Like Wise david James was an outstanding keeper but always remembered for fucking up against united and that was him tagged with the calamity name.

Incidentally although I did ok playing football I still get remembered by my mates as the 6ft 5 keeper who got lobbed in year 10 in a county football game. Still hurts to be honest.

How about a "shite players remembered for loads of overwhelmingly bad f***-ups" thread?
I'm sure we've got loads from the Ball/Clarke era

England goalies are always highlighted! Seaman being lobbed by Ronaldinho, Shilton being out jumped by 5ft 2" Maradona, Robinson air kick from a bobbled back pass.

Roberto Baggio’s penalty miss at the 1994 World Cup.
This was tragic. I think Baresi and Massaro may have missed penalties too, I'd have to read up as my memory is awful but we remember the poney tailed maestro missing that penalty only. For me, he's the greatest ever Italian footballer, but it's hard to erase that penalty miss.

Love him to bits, but Micah Richards away at Sunderland in 2013/14* gave the most genuinely laughable performance by a pro footballer I've ever seen, sticks in the mind as much as any one moment. Somehow lasted 70 minutes.

* We lost 1-0 so in fairness could have been one of 4 seasons

Wasn't it Paul Robinson who made the error against Croatia?

Robert Green is a good choice for this thread aswell, got murdered for letting in that pea roller against the yanks.

Nonsense. Bernardo Corradi, by a mile. Followed, a long way back, by Massimo Taibi.
