goodness gracious me :)

I doubt very much that the hatch has been tied with rope and certainly not from the inside as the only way he would have got out would be through the floor.
I presume the rope would have been used to lash down some cargo to the lashing rings.

I wish you would have told me that on the night :)

I'm not a nervous flyer by any stretch but I did think I hope the door stays on which obviously It did.

That's nothing. Imagine being sat on a 35 year old jet2 757 and you're sat next to the window over the front hold, everyone is on board waiting to depart Crete and you notice the hatch for the hold is still open and there are a few men in high viz vests scratching their heads and going in and out the hold. This goes on for about 10mins when suddenly out of the blue a guy appears with a length of rope and disappears into the hold. Cue a bit of noise, a bit of whirring and out he comes, no rope. The door closes with a grinding thump and off we go.

All the flight I kept wondering if that rope will keep the hatch shut.

What about those space monkeys that you get on the plane wings? What are they all about?
Edit: I see @urban genie has beat me to it.

same thing happened to me i was on a flight to the us, starts hurtling down the runway and then the pilot hits the breaks and aborts the takeoff due to 'complications' , we taxi back to the stand and after a bit they decided to deplane us all, at this point there is no bridge so we get off on the stairs, as we get off there is a group of guys with hi vis jackets with the turbine open and honestly what looked like a 20 quid argos toolkit trying to fix it, honestly debated on getting back on that flight
