Grand national

Over-trained, pumped full of steroids, whipped, ran to exhaustion and shot. Nope, never seen that in 'the wild'.

They have no other purpose unfortunately. They'd be used as working animals and treated a lot worse if they weren't in racing. Otherwise they'd be culled as their numbers would be uncontrollable. When a horse loses it's jockey, it keeps running and jumping anyway. They love it.

Not strictly true. They are herd/pack animals. That's why they'll continue to run and jump. In the wild horses very rarely jump up, it's not natural for them. But they are built to jump across.

They don't need to jump that's why - they just run around things. Like most of us. That one horse kept running and jumping so I'm going to generalise and say they all like jumping. You get a horse on tape telling me they don't and I'll consider your argument.

If it results in me winning a few quid then they could be running starving children around that course

What self-justifying nonsense. Their purpose is to be an animal.

How do you know? Have you spoken to a horse recently? I'm pretty sure they live a decent life owned by rich folk. Better than doing eff all running around the field of England being shot by farmers or ending up in people's food. Horses have no purpose. Unfortunately, humans will only allow animals that either serve a purpose or don't restrict us from serving ours. Horses would overpopulate and cause road traffic incidents and subsequently be shot. A lot like badgers and deer.

If you look at horses when they run the national, they're genuinely smiling. They love it.
