Good idea. Could replace the hungry children with people with long term or terminal illnesses, have them chasing a 12 month course of medication.

As you probably can tell I'm only on the wind up. But unfortunately, though you might not like it - the control of horses is much better through sport than otherwise. In North Queensland they went on a mass cull because of impacts on traffic and the wider implications as horses compete with cattle for food and water. The beef industry is huge and money talks. Horses would be killed in much higher numbers outside of sport. It might not be right, but it's just the way it is. I love them, they're majestic animals and no one wants to see them killer or injured. I believe that the racing industry does its best to look after them and ensure that they remain fit and healthy.

You've got to ensure the longevity of the sport - starving kids have to remain starving in order to race again. A carrot is a just reward.

It would facilitate night races without the expense of flood lights, sounds like a good business plan to me.
