As I said there was a jet race but the jets that we see in aircraft today are the ones that were designed by Whittle. Or at least a variation of them.
I'm not disputing whether it was the first in the air.
If you look at the Camprini on wiki it even states there.
As designed by Campini, the aircraft did not have a jet engine in the sense that we know them today
