Great Mancunian Bands

I actually saw Albertos, Sad Cafe and John Cooper Clarke on the same bill one night at Rafters in the late 70's!

Cool. Some great bands played Rafters in those days...

I did like Sid's Caff too....though realise they were never seen to be cool in the slightest, especially by the burgeoning New Wave scene (but they did have more input into that than recognised, in certain studios with bands who, shall we say weren't quite competent enough to play all their own music....lol) they were a classy AOR band, and deserved more success and recognition. Thought they were made for the US market and would have been massive there had been marketed right..

Prefer the original with Devoto in the Buzzcocks. This version ain't doing it for me.

And no mention of possibly the most succesful Manchester band of all time... The Hollies.

Or Sad Cafe. Or Freddie and the Dreamers. Or Wayne Fontana. Or Crosby, Stills and NASH. Or even Simply Red...

We are possibly the most productive musical area in the world.

And Albertos...

and Victor Brox Bluestrain..

The Hollies, 10cc, The Bee Gees, Chemical Brothers, Doves, Elbow, Monaco and Starsailor!

Thats my contribution!

The Chemical Brothers (ex Dust Brothers) were at university in Manchester but I don't think either of them are Mancs.

Thought they were from Sheffield, mate?

Nope Manchester sure of it? If I am wrong i'll eat my hat?

Shed Seven are an English indie rock band from York

sugar! i'll get out the HP!

They are from York. I used to live just a few doors down from them when I was at university in York. Rubbish band anyway :)

My choices: the Smiths, The Fall and Joy Division / New Order. Don't like any of the others.
