The definition of Soul music needs to be agreed. For me, Soul music is from the 60s & 70s. Motown, Stax, Chess and so on. What passes as R&B, World music & so on isn't Soul music.
Think 60s & 70s Manchester music scene..

R&B currently is a million miles away from Soul music. Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé and most of the stuff posted on this thread has got fuck all to do with classic Soul music.

Motown, Detroit, motor city, was r&b and soul. With a little blues. And rock. So many influences.
Today's r&b might have a different sound but it's still got the same influences.
