De Niro in Raging Bull was first thing that jumped to mind but he gave several stunning performances from Taxi Driver to The King of Comedy; which I would say were the greatest run of performances by any actor.

His "co-star" in Godfather II - Al Pacino - gave fantastic performances in the first two Godfather movies.

The scene when Pacino goes to the toilet in the restaurant to retrieve the gun hidden in the cistern so he can shoot the policeman
back at the table is truly brilliant. The emotions he shows whilst locked in that toilet are off the scale. Pure genius.
