Greatest Comebacks...

One of my 1st away days this was. Great day, Great limbs, great memories
I was studying in Germany in ‘89 so Paddy Feeney and the World Service were all I had to keep me updated. I was sitting Bon my bed, head in hands after he’d read out the half time scores; only to go fucking mental when hearing the final score.
What a rollercoaster end to that season. I took a gamble the Bournemouth game would see us win promotion so hitchhiked back; saw that debacle and hitched back thus missing Bradford. Some matches (Shrewsbury away midweek 1-0 win IIRC) I’d only find out the score couple days later through “Kicker” magazine in Germany. Great memories of that season following them vicariously through the radio and European newspapers

You know, I might be wrong, but I got a feeling in my bones that this title race is going to be much closer than it looks.

It's a feeling that's stayed with me for a few days.

We're done when it's mathematically impossible.

Until then, I've seen the fabled January run happen too many times to say that it's over.

2-0 down at half time (courtesy of two Mick Quinn goals) won 3-2 against Coventry City, think the winner was a Keith Curle penalty. Signing in the rain on the open terrace, circa 1992.

2-0 down home to Blackburn, won 3-2, when they had a very good side. Played fantastic second half and won with a David White (deflected) goal, circa 93/94.

Two that spring to mind from the 90s were trailing Sheffield Wednesday 2 0 at half time and coming back to win 3 2 at Maine Rd, with the new Kippax under construction. Losing 2 0 to Newcastle at half time the coming back to win 3 2 again the new Kippax finished as I was sat in it. Sorry I can't date or give the scorers FOCs memory I'm afraid, anyone give more details.

We didn't win this game but at the time it felt like a victory.
Anfield around 90/91,
Mark Ward scored for us, then they scored 2 in a couple minutes near the end.
Whoosh Nial and his disco pants equalised in injury time right in front of the away end.
Broke one their seats in the chaos of the celebrations

29 April 1989 Manor Ground.
Brightwell
Gleghorn
White
Own goal.
I think I went to this one??!!!

As I was living close by at the time :0)

Memory of the away wins, should be better, due to their rarity back in the day for the games,I could get too!!??

The other thing I remember about the Manor Ground and the same at Fratton Park.

Was the post match exit and crush as the whole away end , used to be cleared by the police and stewards, and appeared to be filtered out of one exit and usually got held back for 20 minutes!!!

So you ended up packed like sardines under the terrace, in an alley at the back of some houses, desperate for a piss and slowly being crushed!!

Good Times :0)

Slightly off topic, did anyone go to the Coventry away game where we had a big fuck off snoball fight. Sure we took about 6k that night.
We scored late on, flitcroft to make it 2-1, then the equalised last minute.
When flitcroft scored loads on the pitch throwing snow balls, when they scored they done the same.
£18 a ticket if I remember, expensive back then.
Coppers stood in front of us but the first few rows were below pitch level, we were singing "18 quid and we see fuck all, city is are name"
Great away game.
