Is a riff a repeated chord?

If it is (either a single chord or a series of chords), and that is what I understand a riff to be, then from more recent-ish times;

Probably not the most difficult riff to master technically, but very effective in that it reels you in to the song from the opening second.

plus some of those are more lead guitar than super dooper chord slashing
