Well, one of us has been singing the wrong lyrics for the last 50 years :-)
I've always thought it was
"...and the morals that they worship, will be gone"

Probably me as I have never checked, but it seemed to fit anyway(if its a religious conflict) as Townshend was in his spiritual phase at the time.

I have done this with other songs too, as we all might have at some point, a sort of listeners poetic license.
