greatest save ever

I remember the 71-72 season when we played Stoke at Maine Rd. It was towards the end of the season and we were odds on to be champions. Anyway, it was'nt Stoke we played that day, it was Gordon Banks. The guy was phenominal, making save after brilliant save.

City went on to lose by the odd goal and it was the start of the bad run that eventually left us finishing 4th, but he made some saves that day that were every bit as good as the famous Pele save in the world cup.

I will always remember standing behind the goal in the North stand that day, and being totally in awe of what I was watching. Lee and Davies were pumelling him, and he was more than a match. It is a shame it was not captured on film, as it was a masterclass in goalkeeping, and I know I am not looking back with rose tinted specs. Sometimes you see a performance that leaves you speechless, and that afternoon was one of them.

It was also one of his last games as a few weeks later he had his car accident and never played again.

There was a Joe Hart save not sure who it was against maybe Bristol City in the FA Cup.

Can remember the save but not the match

There were a few of Given against Cyrpus, I think it was probably one of his best games ever and it could have been the most embarasing nights for Ireland but Given was truely outstanding, the Cyprus manager said afterwards that you just can't beat a keeper when he's on form like that, (or something like that) But there was one in praticular where he was going the opposite way and just changed direction completely, (I'm 99.9% sure that it was against Cyprus) and defied logic by keeping it out.
And in that same match he made 2 point blank saves, one after the other, till this day I don't know how he managed to get back up on his feet to save the 2nd one because the shots were straight after eachother.

I don't have clips of either though unfortunatley.

The entire ground thought it'd gone it. (Given v Henry was some battle over the years, Given always seemed to be unstoppable against Arsenal.)

..Sure I'm not biased at all..but in fairness he's made some unreal saves over the years.
And one more. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqLaSZxX64A" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqLaSZxX64A</a>
Only because it's a classic and one of the reasons why Bramble probably still haunts Given in his dreams. How that boy is still playing at the top level is really beyond me, without question one of the worst defenders..ever.

I could be wrong but I think it could have been alan clark...

Given's save against Afroman was phenomenal by any standards and arguably the greatest save ever. Watch it again and you'll see what I mean. Incredible reaction.
