Greg dyke says he will be depressed if city win the league

Re: Greg dyke says he will be depressed if city win the leag

You guys really need to give it up on this one. Read the article and it quickly becomes apparent that he doesn't find City depressing but the fact that there are so few top teams with English players (for the obvious reason that there aren't many out there).
The media have just done their usual twist to give it a negative impact, move on and celebrate.

Maybe so Colin, however. Greg knows the media inside out and would have a good idea how his comments would be reported.

It looks like we will be forced by Uefa to bring through more home grown players and this was part of the Clubs plan over time, so he needn't have opened his mouth. It might work out OK for us in the medium to long term.

Re: Greg dyke says he will be depressed if city win the leag

The crazy thing is that the FA have spent months working on a document, which is all based on a fallacy. I've read the report, and it's premise is:

"A direct relationship can be drawn between the numbers of available players playing regularly at the highest level in the best performing teams and the performance of a national squad."

I've just done a course on quality management at my company, so I decided to test this, plotting England performances in World European Cups since 1992 against the percentage of English players in the premier league. The result from Minitab was...

"The correlation is -0.1724. Although technically a negative correlation, the relationship between your variables is only weak (nb. the nearer the value is to zero, the weaker the relationship)."

What does this mean? It means that if there is any correlation at all (and the figure suggests that there probably isn't), then the team do better when there are fewer English players in the Premier League!

Typical of a thick Cockney tw@t like Greg Dyke to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds of FA money running an investigation where his very first step is wrong. Prats like Dyke, who have only ever worked in stupid industries like Media, have no concept of how to perform proper investigations like they are done in industry, where making correct decisions is important rather than blowing up their already massive egos, complete;ly disregarding facts.

Makes me angry.

Re: Greg dyke says he will be depressed if city win the leag

The whole theory that clubs must play English players is the completely wrong IMO. No club has an obligation to field inferior players and shouldn't be castigated if they choose better quality non-English players in their starting line-ups. However all clubs should have the obligation of developing young English players and on this subject City are doing more than most with their investment and planning. Dyke and anyone else picking on City for this are simply not thinking clearly.

Re: Greg dyke says he will be depressed if city win the leag

Looks like he's backtracking a bit now:

FA chairman Greg Dyke has performed a remarkable about-face by hailing Manchester City as "worthy" Premier League champions.

The former BBC chief angered Blues fans during the run-in when he declared that it would be "depressing" to see Manuel Pellegrini's team lift the title ahead of Liverpool.

Dyke, who is attempting to introduce measures increasing the amount of English players in the top-flight, explained that his comments were in support of the strong homegrown influence in Brendan Rodgers' squad.

But he has now admitted that the Blues fully deserved their success, and has praised their goalscoring prowess.

“Manchester City were pushed to the wire by Liverpool but were worthy Premier League champions which was a fantastic achievement for Manuel Pellegrini in his debut season in English football," he said.

“Not forgetting their League Cup Final win and scoring over 100 Premier League goals which were both tremendous accomplishments."
