GTA4 IMO was meh, after the crazy big size of San Andreas it was a let down being stuck in such a small area.

San Andreas was too big, it took far too long to get anywhere, unless you had a plane.

The mission variety was epic though. You had that mission in the hippy mobile were you had to drive for miles with a load of weed IIRC. You also had all sorts of hidden missions all over the place in the middle of nowhere.

agreed, a more open world version of San Andreas would be epic, more tangents so that you can end up with a completely different perspective of an ending to lots of other people, not just "kill Dimitri or don't" and then have to kill somebody else at the end, I didn't care about the Irish gf in GTA IV getting killed cos you didn't get a shag anyway, not much of a bird.

The problem with San Andreas is that it just didn't have the atmosphere of GTAIII or Vice City. Hopefully the new one will have a sense of identity, like the way Vice City really pushed the 80s thing hard. I just find that you get much more 'inside' the game when it has that quality.

Yeah, my thoughts too. It was a top game though, and enjoyed it.
Personally my favourite was vice city.

GTAIV will be very hard to match, but if anyone can do it, R* can. Promising clip on the R* web site with Small Faces soundtrack, which is a great start!

I loved it for it's size. Nothing wrong in getting on a Hog and just cruising for miles and miles. Faith no More blaring out. Bliss.
