Guardiola fined £20,000 for wearing yellow ribbon (p140)

Behaving like you think you are above the rules is just not cool.
What if you don't agree with the rules?

Do you agree with FFP?

Do you agree with UEFA & FIFA's rules on the subject? (Where non offensive symbols are fine - unlike the FA that simply didn't change theirs to reflect FIFA's change?)

Alas, whichever way you look at this, its about our club not the man, rags dippers, spuds chavs or tarquins and there would not have been a peep form the FA, anything they can cling onto to try and hurt our club they will use, Pep provided it for them, Pep wont back down thats for sure, stadium ban? keep fining him? I reckon the FA have made a rod for their own back here and I dare say one or two within that bastion of corruption will wish they had kept their gobs shut now..!

This is my take on it too, if the clubs briefs have researched the facts here and said that the FA can not demand removal,
then it may be the reason Pep is continuing to wear it. Well, let's hope that is the case.

I have a feeling he'd continue to wear it regardless, but i hope our legal department have at least been able back up that position.

To be honest, I've though the same.

Behaving like you think you are above the rules is just not cool. Pep's stock is at a huge high right now, and this silly spat is a shame because it will only damage his image. The FA are in hole since they cannot be seen to have one set of rules for Pep and another one for everyone else. He's going to have to back down, so the sooner he gets on with it, the better imo.

Bang on.
He has made his point time for common sense to prevail.
The thing being that if Pep wore the ribbon in both pre & post match press conferences (which he is allowed to do) it would probably have
more effect and get as least as much publicity and possibly more than it does actually wearing it during the game.

Nobody is above the rules and no single individual is bigger than the club - not even Pep.
As I say - he has made his point. Time to move on.

You change the rules from within and not by disobeying them. Sorry can't back Pep on this. The FA is a club and when you join you agree to those rules even if you do not agree with them.

Yes, the FA need to change the rule in line with EUFA and FIFA but the FA have painted themselves into a corner now and they are not going to back down. If this had been them under the pisscan there would have been no case to answer and if there had the media furore led by Sly Sports would ensure a rule change. But we are City so nobody will give a stuff.

Pep can make his point any other time except when on the pitch. Time to back down on this. This will affect the club and possibly our results.

I wonder how our owners feel? Are they happy that reporters are starting to question the human rights in the Emirates?

The “PC gone mad” stuff is just cringy and embarrassing. It’s the kind of thing Alan Partridge would say.

It's not the fear of prosecution, it's more subtle than that. Any deviation from the prevailing orthodoxy is 'not tolerated'. Present a coherent argument why you disagree with the current mainstream thinking on Climate Change, Brexit, Multiculturalism or Gender issues, as examples, and your job could be in jeopardy. Many academics who support Brexit wouldn't dare speak out. Polls consistently under estimate Conservative party voting intentions because people are afraid to identify as Tories.

The most insidious case in recent times is the sexual abuse scandals in Rotherham and Newcastle, where hundreds of young women (many of them under age) were sexually abused by groups of British born Muslim men of Pakistani origin. The problem was identified several years ago but no action was taken because the people who could have put a stop to it didn't want to be seen as racist. That's political correctness gone mad. Many girls who had their lives blighted could have been spared their ordeal if we didn't live in fear of being accused of being racist or sexist.

(The fact that I've reread what I've written and am hesitating about posting it is an indication of the extent of the problem.)

Freedom of speech isn't something we have or we don't have it's something we need to be vigilant about protecting, all of us, all the time.

This thread definitely isn't the place for this debate.

Can you imagine the public outrage on here if it was Peg ??
Can you imagine Peg having any sort of condonable convictions?

Jokes aside, as much as I passionately dislike Mourinho, I would probably get slaughtered on here for supporting his right to reasonably advocate in the face of a dubiously enforced, civicly suspect rule.

I thought Pep had already stated his position that he is a human first and a manager comes second to that. If he did not receive the backing of the club on this I am certain he would leave rather than back down. The people saying he is in the wrong and should toe the line I think are going to be disappointed because I think this issue is much bigger than football for Pep. None of us know how this is going to play out, just hope some form of compromise can be found.
