In answering the question of why some players (Lewis and McAtee) were missing from the selection team in the FA Cup final, Guardiola said he felt he owed other players a chance to be in the squad instead.
Do you agree with the concept that the manager owes all players participation regardless of the nature and importance of the game? I find it quite strange, especially to apply this concept in the FA Cup final.
The coach doesn't owe any player the right to participate, especially in crucial and important matches. The player may have the right to know the reasons for their absence to give the player a fair opportunity to train, develop, and compete for a starting spot, but I don't believe this is an absolute right.
This isn't the first time Pep has spoken about this matter. He has previously said he feels that he owes the old guards the right to play more. I believe this is one of the reasons Pep objected to signing players last summer and, thus, one of the biggest and most important reasons for our poor season-ending trophyless.
What do you think?

Pep should be a manager and be colder not about being fair because it's fine when he leaves the newer payers out!

Look how ruthless he was when he first took over but that first season if I remember rightly he kept playing mainly the pelegrini team! The summer later loads left we brought a lot of players in and we got 100 points

I don’t think people should pay much attention to what Pep says in the immediate aftermath of a defeat. He doesn’t like losing and he doesn’t much like interviews. It would be fascinating to hear what really goes on with his team selection, as it has seemed bizarre at times this year, but it’s not about fairness. If it were, Philips would have had more of a go, Grealish wouldn’t be out in the cold, likewise now Gonzalez. My own view is that Pep just doesn’t feel like he has the tools he needs anymore, and he is constantly shuffling the pack, looking for the right balance.

I would only disagree about Phillips, I think he played far too many minutes for us, nice lad or not.

Do people really fall for Pep’s semi-intelligible post-game comments? I honestly think he is being sarcastic half the time!

As for anyone being owed anything, it begs belief.

There is A LOT of shit that goes on behind the scenes in football and occasionally it makes it into the public domain in some form or other. Whether this is that may never be known, or maybe it’ll be in someone’s memoir some day.

Regardless, EVERYONE knows the squad needs a significant refresh and Pep will have demanded one before he agreed to another few seasons, and Viana has his marching orders!

We’d better get into the CL or it’s going to get ugly for some of the people around here!

We are one win away. we'll get there and if we don't I will burn my Chelsea shirt in my back garden and post it on tikkytokky.

If anyone earned the right to play in the final it was Rico Lewis, who scored the goal that shut the Forest fans up and sent City on the way there.

Echeverri made his debut as a sub in the final. Played well. He could hardly believe he had not scored with his first touch. That would have been some debut. Why was he not selected earlier? Ah, yes, Pep picks them out of a hat.
Echeverri not given 1 minute of football in all competitions since january but throws him on when we're desperate for a goal with 14 minutes left.

I think Pep has consistently shown that he's the best manager in the world at managing a squad throughout the whole season, navigating suspensions and injuries to win the league in the end. One player may be out and another can seemlessly fit in. No other manager comes close to Pep in this respect.

He is definitely NOT the best at getting a win in a one off, must win, game. We've seen that often enough! But his ability to keep everyone motivated, happy, in form and up to speed, has been his strength. And you don't do that without being "fair" to the players.

If that’s what’re said then fair enough, he had the right feel tgat way if he desires. Lewis has been ostracised all season by a lot of City fans but now we’re complaining he wasn’t in the team Saturday?? Don’t recall Pep ever saying he objected to signing players last summer, where is that evidence for that??

I think we shouldn't take what a manager says to the press at face value. What do you expect him to say? "Last time I started McAtee he did fuck all so I'm dropping him?" "All of the available transfer options were shit, so we figured we could thrash Kev, Rodri and Gundo for another year, but it blew up in our face?" "We were awful over Christmas, so we had to panic buy a bunch of players and it turns out they aren't really good enough?"
