Gundogan - Back training 26th June '17

I like Gundogan, but you do tend to find that if you buy players who have been out for ages with a back injury, and have some on-going nightmare knee dislocation when they sign, it is not exactly the mother of all shocks when they get another long-termer

As an Australian blue, I have followed him for the last few years watching him play for Melbourne and the national team. He is not in the same realm as Fernandinho, Yaya and Gundogan. However he offers far more going forward than Fernando, and unlike Delph isn't crocked. He would make a great squad player, and he is home grown. To write him because it's 'only the championship' is a bit disingenuous. If you've read the interviews with him his loan to Huddersfield was to get him used to the English game again, give him the legs to last a season, with a view to then see if he was ready for the City squad next summer. This is mutually beneficial as it gives Mooy a chance (whether he passes or fails is up to him) and it illustrates a pathway for Australian players. If we can show that you can transition from Melbourne to Manchester City, then Melbourne city becomes a destination club of choice for aspiring Australian talent. Arguments have been made that that is why Bruce Kamau signed for Melbourne this year, and if it means the City get first refusal on the next Kewell, Viduka, Cahill, Grella, Neil, Emerton, Bresciano, Schwarzer, Bosnich or even Tiatto then there is pay off there.

There are two reasons why I think we would consider bringing this forward
  • Our need for more depth in midfield.
  • Rumours about Wagner leaving Huddersfield, although this seems to have been shot down of late.
If Wagner leaves, I think it would be the right deal to recall him early and see if he sinks or swims.

To be fair the Boj was not signed with an ongoing injury like the others mentioned. He just got injured as soon as he stepped off the plane.
 
The amount of injury prone players we have signed since the take over is shocking. We never seem to learn.

I'm sure there's more but they immediately sprung to mind.

I am not sure who takes the award for being the most annoying. For example, Hargreaves being injured was not annoying because we knew he would be. It was just expected.

Bojinov being out for a year and then getting injured warming up, was just so pathetic it was actually funny.

Delph is certainly in the running for the award.

We've signed 70 players since the takeover. You've come up with 5 injury prone players. The obvious other one is Vincent Kompany.

So that's 1 in 12 players are injury prone.

I don't think it's an issue at all. They're cheap and if they come off you get someone like Kompany.

Footballers get injured at every single club.

Another one who can't read the post correctly.

What it said was - the amount of players we have signed since te taker over who were/are injury prone.

Kompany wasn't injury prone when we signed him and was signed prior to the takeover.

I've never known a club sign so many players with KNOWN issues before we even signed them!

People can argue all the want but who else would have signed RSC or Hargreaves for e.g.? Let alone some of the other gems.
