A few to keep an eye on for the first few months of the season.
Erling Haaland has 38 Premier League goals in 36 appearances, 2,857 minutes (75 minutes per goal)
Fastest to 40 PL goals
Alan Shearer/Andrew Cole (45 matches)
Haaland needs 2 goals in 8 appearances to break
Fastest to 40 PL goals (in minutes)
Alan Shearer (3,454 minutes - 86 minutes per goal)
Haaland needs 2 goals in 597 minutes (299 minutes per goal) to break
Fastest to 50 PL goals
Andrew Cole (65 matches)
Haaland needs 12 goals in 28 appearances to break
Fastest to 50 PL goals (in minutes)
Alan Shearer (5,337 minutes - 107 minutes per goal)
Haaland needs 12 goals in 2,480 minutes (207 minutes per goal) to break
50 Premier League goals is within touching distance in the next few weeks, almost certainly before Christmas. Only 130 people have ever achieved that feat. Barring injury, he will overtake Edin Dzeko, Tim Cahill, Gareth Bale, Diego Costa, Alex Lacazette and Javier Hernandez by the end of the season.
Now only needs one more to absolutely smash the record. He could do it one game…
47 goals in 45 games
Took Cole 65 games to reach 50 goals, and he’s the fastest in 30 years of PL football.
To do it in under 50 games is, frankly, taking the piss.
Now only needs one more to absolutely smash the record.
Andy Cole - 50 goals in 65 games
Haaland - 49 goals in 47 games
Nice post. Carragher was just looking for anything to have a go - I wonder if he’d remove Salahs penalties from his record at Liverpool??I noticed Carragher yesterday highlighting that “Andy Cole didn’t take penalties”.
While true, if you exclude all of Haaland’s penalty goals he would still be scoring at a faster rate than Cole.
And to be clear, Cole’s form in those first two seasons was quite freakish and something he failed to maintain - by the end of 1995 he had 55 goals in 76 games (0.72 goals per game), not as fast as Haaland’s non-penalty goals but very good. By the end of his spell with United, he had 136 goals in 265 games (0.51 goals per game).
Haaland has averaged about a goal per game for five straight seasons and in the Champions League. Cole scored 289 goals across his career which is a great effort. But Haaland is already on 204 and he’s only 23.
Surprised by Dzeko, always thought he got more than 50 in the league for us!50 Premier League goals is within touching distance in the next few weeks, almost certainly before Christmas. Only 130 people have ever achieved that feat. Barring injury, he will overtake Edin Dzeko, Tim Cahill, Gareth Bale, Diego Costa, Alex Lacazette and Javier Hernandez by the end of the season.
