Haaland's disallowed goal

Fair enough, I thought he may have been offside watching on the computer, and was amazed when the flag didn't go up.

You still can't convince me, though, that they are certain which frame to use for the ball on foot when the camera is behind the player like that. One or two frames earlier, and the lines are probably touching. Anyway it doesn't matter, we won :)
If you can go back and watch match of the day, I am not techy enough to do screen grabs but if I recall the first time they freeze framed on their replay he looked more onside, when they then use the shot that has the lines on he is offside. I only say this as the first one they use, the ball is not blurred and the second it’s very blurred (I.e in motion). I am not saying he was on or off but it’s obvious that the technology does not have the frame rate to use on these close calls and that the benefit should go to the attacker.

It was offside. If it really was bent (rather than poor) reffing in the game then we wouldn't have gotten the last minute pen. Save your energy for things that are genuinely wrong.

I think for many people the belief that all agencies are out to get us is central to their philosophy.
I reserve my distaste for the media, especially the bbc, and some pundits.
In the past one or two refs were debatable, Mason was definitely biased.

Bobby Madley was the one for me. I’m disappointed he’s returned.

I had no idea if it was offside at the time - I was too busy fist pumping and screaming - and I still have no idea after seeing the recordings and the lines, dotted or otherwise but I'm glad VAR found an excuse to disallow it, if only so that City fans will get used to enjoying football without goals, as their Stretford neighbours have had to. This should help stop City ruining football?

Well, this new SAOT thingy should be able to counter that with the use of multiple camera angles to synchronise the images, at least in theory. They also say they can interpolate the position of the ball between frames to be even more accurate. Although how that works when the ball is kicked in between frames is anyone's guess. I suppose its the dreaded "AI".

The ball has a chip inside which is recording position even more frequently than the cameras.

I imagine it's fairly easy to work out when the ball is hit, given that there will be a change in speed/direction. The AI will be filling in the gaps where parts of the body can't be seen by any cameras, but I suspect, given the number of cameras, and the number of body points they're recording, this will be pretty predictable.

They’d have found a problem with the kick off, or failing that something in the warm up, or failing that something in training the day before.
