Does the club earn any money from these scarves? Seems to be just the dodgy sellers on the streets around the ground? in that case we should ban them like West Ham have.

Many pubs in Town don’t let people in with colours on. So, many people at the game don’t wear colours for that reason.

If someone is willing to pay to have the words MAN UNITED in red+black or LIVERPOOL in red+white draped around their necks at a City game when we are playing against those teams who we fucking despise, shows that they aren’t true City fans and are taking the place in the ground of people who wouldn’t be caught dead in such filth.

Which Pubs ?

I wear a scarf and badge and have never been denied access to a Pub in Manchester.

Agreed I look debonair and distinguished.

While you’re alright at Midday and might get away with it at teatime before the bouncers start their shift, many pubs and clubs past a certain time on a Saturday evening wouldn’t let you in with colours on, from the Salmon of Knowledge to the Freemount to Night&Day to see some live music and I wouldn’t go to a gig with colours on whether it be at Albert Hall, Aviva, Apollo, New Century Hall or the Academy etc.

It’s literally why the Casual scene exists.

Personally, i wouldnt buy one or wear one and find them a bit irksome. But i dont think the people buying and wearing them are there to provoke people or support the opposition and therefore i find it weird that fans would willingly lobby the club to police people like that.

Clubs arent banning them over safety concerns. Theyre banning them cos they dont make any moey from them.

If people are seriously citing safety concerns then i think there's much bigger issue in that there are people attending games who cant be trusted to not turn aggressive at the sight of A SCARF.

It's not about being offended. It's about the overall atmosphere being diluted into something more nicey nicey, less riff raff, less hard-core supporters, more prawn sandwiches.

I think it's a totem for everything that's wrong with modern audiences. Which means it's probably the future. Shame.

The answer is simple. Produce a normal City scarf with the date of the game and the name of the opposition on it - I’d even allow their club badge on in their colours as long as it’s small. There’s money to be made by the club here from those who collect tat.

Also, can the club produce one that isn’t acrylic please. I’d pay £50 for a decent one but not £20 for the crappy ones.

Sure, who would want to go out on the town at 10 pm with soggy trainers and a retro.
I meant before the game or for a drink after,
Once or twice I have been to live music after a match, and stayed out late, but as you say the scarf is left at the Hotel.

A bit of harmless fun and valuable revenue for the street vendors, certainly not worthy of the levels of invective displayed in this thread.

The most appropriate response should be a wry smile for the wearer, and a nod to those that know better.

That's very sweet but you're wrong.

I can understand why people want a match day scarf - I just don't get why they need to be in the colours of both teams.

Do a Match Day scarf in full City colours with "Manchester City vs Whoever" and the date written on it. Problem solved then?

Thank you.

A couple of questions that I recommend my children ask before passing comment...who is it hurting? and/or what's it got to do with you?

I'm not sure that I agree with the suggestion that the security services become confused by the sight of a nine-year old wearing a half and half scarf and immediately leaping to the conclusion that trouble is brewing.

And, let's be honest, whatever the age of the wearer, a half and half scarf is hardly an integral part of the desperado hooligans winter wardrobe, they are mainly worn by children having fun and tourists looking for a cheap souvenir to take home.
