For the older Blues seeing Halifax in the Cup today brought back memories of the Shay in 1980.

It was an awful day, pissed it down, and I was with a mate of mine and we were stood on a mudbank of about 4 foot high and every so often we would slide to the bottom of it and not be able to see the pitch.I even got a piece of cardboard to try and keep our shoes clean buit we just slid faster.

I lived in Sheffield at the time and the shit I got in our local pub on the Sunday was at another level to anything I had ever experienced although in hindsight it was ideal preperation for the next 28 years!

Yes, I switched on ITV for the footie and had a terrible flashback when I saw which ground they were at! A truly dreadful day, loads of trouble after the match as well as the shite on the pitch.

The ground looks nothing like it did for that game, when I saw the state of the ground and pitch i was a little worried. We missed some good chances on the day, but typical city managed to lose.

Not forgetting the bit of the Hyde Rd stadium which still forms part of their Skircoat Rd stand

Got back to my local after halifax it was full of reds I was in the mood for turning pshyco, how I held it together is beyond me, they had drawn at spuds and believing they would win the replay, well I could have kissed Ozzie ardileis when he chipped bailey to win the replay, went personally looking for them but not a one of them was in the pub.

Flashbacks of being a heartbroken 10yr old. Thanks for opening old wounds and deeply, deeply buried painful memories.
