Leonard Cohen's version is 3 verses long but definitive.
The song has over 40 verses.
My favourite is John Cale's version.
Buckley's is SHIT.

The Telegraph seems to think Cohen wrote up to 80 verses, having interviewed him. And he's also reported to have sung several versions of it.

So, I'm not sure what the problem is...?

Like many songs recorded by different artists, its the one you probably heard the first/most that becomes your fave.

I think the Buckley, Cohen and Cale versions are superb and Wainwright's good. The abomination that was released by the X-factor drivel is the one to slate.

you obviously haven't heard much then. he was a brilliant blues/rock guitarist and that was most of his work - not singing stuff like this

His Grace Album has been a huge success and sold Millions.

It is due to be re-released by Columbia again this summer.

His work has been give acclaim by some of the best singers and song writers along with critics in the world.

I suppose he is shite ?

Or maybe some don’t appreciate talent when they hear it ?
