Hamburg or Berlin

been to both, was stationed in west berlin for 3 years....top fookin city, pisses all over hamburg, reeperbhan v grotty charlottys..no contest book the tickets to tegel mate!!

Both lovely but Hamburg is the best imo.

The architecture will remind you of Amsterdam but i think it's better and i love Holland.
It is fiercly proud of it's status as a city-state (what liverpudlians wanna be) and that has made it a great place to eat and drink.

You can go to Berlin another time, knowing both i would defo do Hamburg first.

I should add i know Hamburg much better than Berlin and have not been for about 6 years.

I like both cities, though I know Berlin better.

If you're interested in 20th Century history, there is no better place than Berlin and since the Fall of the Wall, much of it, especially what was East Berlin, has been rebuilt.

Hamburg is a bit closer and the people are very friendly. The City Hall has six more rooms than Buckingham Palace. And we had a great time when we went there for a friendly pre-season 2003/4,

And you will certainly be able to buy any one of a number of excellent beers in both places.

So, it's down to personal choice, IMHO.

Hamburg mate I used to work over there, fucking love it, go on an all nighter then the fish market pissed in the morning.Guy that's not a euphemism for the reaperbann. Plus you can get the ferry straight into the city centre, it's not a bad drive though.

Depends what you want to do on this break.

If you want history and architecture, go to Berlin. It's also a top night out, my second favourite city, but you need to know where to go when you want a drink. The place is massive and doesn't really have one big bar and club area.
Hamburg, however, is easy. Just head to the Reeperbahn and Bob's yer uncle!

Berlin hands down. Go there 3-4 times a year with work. Lots to see and do from Museums to clubbing.

Each to their own, used to go out with a trolley dolly from Berlin never found it as friendly/ruff/down to earth as Hamburg.

Hamburg for me too.

Do they still do the ferry from Harwich?

Ohhh that was a long time ago.
I assume so, not worked there for 20 years and that's how I got there. Driven it a few times to see some mates over there.

Berlin. cos i live there...

no, honest. Like both. Depends on what you want to do.

Hamburg, more relaxed, more established, Berlin is a rougher place with more history and still in the making

Like you say, very different places, I think mancunians would get Hamburg better.I do.

Yeah Berlin is a bit more umm.

Think of Berlin as an old london townhouse with super modern minimalistic all white interior and Hamburg as the homely yorkshire village with cottages etc.

Not literally of course but you get the gist.

Both great just depends what your after at the time.
lovely places i want to see again on my way to/from the black forest this summer.
However if i go to Hamburg i'll want to drive up to Amsterdam and the missus will moan like fuck i reckon.
