Happy 75th Birthday Asa Hartford

I know of 5 blues around my age (mid 40s) in the Manchester area named Asa, after him. And there will be more.

Must be a weird little anamoly/bump in the baby name records that will have had some local bureaucrat scratching their head (if they weren’t a football fan)!

I like Asa Hartford as a player, always gave his all, but he did me no favours at Chelsea one bleak Saturday in the 70s when he popped up with a rare headed winner for City at Stamford Bridge .... just before full time i got 'sussed' by a bunch of angry Chelsea yobs who didn't take too kindly to me being there, and i pretty much ended up getting legged out of the stand and all the way back to the coaches ..... I did however manage to show about 30 of them a clean pair of heels with an impressive turn of pace and succeeded in jumpin' on the coach just before Helen went into 'war mode' and clouted one of them around the earhole with her bell!

One of my favourite players. I think back to a great memory of us beating the rags 4-0, him playing really well and scoring (Marred by the terrible injury to Colin Bell, although obviously I didn't realise how bad that would be at the time). Just looked it up was an evening league cup game, November 1975.

Fellow Bankie and played the way I imagined I did - so always a favourite.

Great player in that mid 70's team although his shooting could be a bit wayward at times.
Sold to soon by Allison though Swales didn't agree and told him so in that City documentary to which Mal replied "Do me a favour"
