Wow, you lot have short memories. We only won that game as Bryan Robsn was out injured, if you remember?
I recall the next school day, half of the rags in our class were now suddenly Liverpool fans, and the other half were coming out with some right pearlers:
It was a freak result. Will never happen again in a hundred years.
Hinchcliffe's goal doesn't count, because he's a Man U supporter.
Ferguson's out of time. If he's not sacked now we'll be a laughing stock.
Oh yeah? Well it doesn't matter because ceefax says were signing Wesley Sneidjer in the morning anyway.
I loved that day. I was ten years old, and I remember it clearly as the day that my dad stopped taking me to Maine Road purley so that he could get out of the house and have a beer in the social club. Though the rags support that day was pretty scary to a kid, like caged animals. Kicking off because they were getting beat by their 'inferior' neighbours.
I think, after Hughes' goal, it was probably the same day that I learned the phrase 't**t'. Some kid at school going on about how Hughes' goal was the best moment in the match and only thing it should be remembered for. I told him they could have that one on us, swear his face went as purple as Slurgie's.
